970 or 390 for gta v?

zulQUET
Go to solution Solved by Trav_X,

I thought GTA was one of those games that is branded towards a certain card structure? Like on NVIDIA cards it will run better because better optimized or something with drivers. Just what I have heard, I heard GTAV was running better in terms of NVIDIA cards. I would suggest a 970 just because of my NVIDIA preference, but the 390 is in no way bad. Whatever you want, although technically I believe the 390 is better. However, I thought the 970 was better in GTAV.

im looking to buyild my very first pc and have to decide between the 970 and 390.

witch is better for gta v?

970 would have lower power consumption so i could add another one for sli when i want to upgrade, but the i have heard that the 390 is better in almost every game.

i tried to check some benchmarks but almost everyone of them had different  results.

some of them show that 390 would get over 15fps more than the 970 in gta v, but other show that the 970 would get 20fps more?

this is very hard for first time pc builder:D

If your CPU is shit. (non K i5 4th gen and below) 970.

If your CPU is good. 970/390(390 tiny lil bit more fps).

If you want more than 1080p. 970/390(390 tiny lil bit more fps).

390. It´s generally slightly more powerful, but both will handle the game fine.

R9 390 is superior. Keep in mind that some benches were done with older drivers than others - things change.

Yeah, definitely go for the 390 it performs a bit better and will let you run 1440p games.

Non K 4th gen. My 4670k(can't OC) does bottleneck my 390x in gta 5 at 1080p. But it doesn't really matter since I set settings higher normally.

Sadly for GTA 5, that i5 isn't anything good.

yup, but not in GTA5

had both 970 and 390

970 was reference, and it got 1-2 FPS more in GTA, 1080p. sometimes even more (drops were bigger with 390)

so aftermarket 970 might even be better

OP, if GTA5 is the only serious thing you play, get 970, otherwise definetly get 390

they are xfx r9 390 and asus strix gtx 970 and the 250gb ssd is samsungs 850 evo, and the bundle would be 10e cheaper because im going to buy 250gb ssd anyways
