*URGENT* Phone Battery status indicator led strip

Hey guys,

Im doing a project where i want to make an led strip indicate the battery status on my phone through wireless charging. I'm making a base with a wireless transmitter integrated and i wanted a LED strip to go around the base and change colours with the level of power in the battery. Lets say red for <20 and green for >80. Is this possible??

Thanks a ton

Welcome to the forums!

For something like that you would need a to be able to send the data or charge status of the phone is wirelessly  to setup an RGB based LED system accordingly to visually show the charge.

unfortunately @W-L is right. You need some sort of data stream from the phone to the base to be able to indicate charge level.

The easiest way I can think of doing this is integrating an Arduino or Pi Zero into the base, alongside a wireless or bluetooth receiver and a custom app that sends battery charge level to the base every x <time unit>

This could probably be done with some sort of NFC reader/emitter but that goes somewhat beyond my level of knowledge

If your able to forward that data via Bluetooth that can be done making everything still wireless, and even giving options like placing down the phone to charge and play music.

There is one other way I can think of which uses no data and that is to plot and measure the charge current required for your specific phone since they will taper off when they get to a certain charge and the battery voltage. While it may not be as good as getting direct data it can still be fairly accurate and is what li-po chargers do for say RC type cells.

ok if i would like to do the bluetooth option with the phone, what kind of electronics would i need for the actual base to make it bluetooth. Like if i use a raspberry pi or arduino with a bluetooth module?

That would be a good start you would also need the coils themselves that give it the wireless charging and the circuity that control it in the base, assuming the phone has built in wireless charging capability.
