Japan plans to put kids in Internet "fasting camps", also in the US.

These camps, which the government plans to implement in the next fiscal year, will focus on outdoor activity, as well as group activities to emphasize the value of face-to-face communication.

Additionally, the children will attend counseling sessions with psychiatrists and clinical psychotherapists to help the ministry identify the causes of Internet addiction.

Also being done in Pennsylvania as well.

The Internet Addiction Program is a  part of the Behavioral Health Services Dual Diagnosis Unit at Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford, PA. The Internet Addiction Treatment and Recovery Program offers counseling and treatment for adults 18 years of age and older, the program is for those who have been unsuccessful overcoming the excessive use of the internet and electronic gaming on their own. The program involves a voluntary ten-day stay within a secure and dedicated patient unit. Internet addiction is any online-related, compulsive behavior which interferes with normal living and causes severe stress on family, friends, loved ones, and one’s work environment. Internet Addiction has been called internet dependency and internet compulsiveness. By any name, it is a compulsive behavior that completely dominates the addicts’ life. Internet addicts make the internet a priority more important than family, friends, and work. The internet becomes the organizing principle of addicts’ lives. They are willing to sacrifice what they cherish most in order to preserve and continue their behavior.

What do you guys think? I believe it's a bit dumb and while yes, there are kids out there of which couldn't literally function without the internet, it is easily remedied by the parent. If a parent is so weak as to not be able to control what their child does, they are not fit to be a parent.

This is stupid.

Why are they saying going on facebook is INTERNET addiction?

I check my emails a couple of times an hour, is that internet addiction?

I am using the internet pretty much 100% of the time I'm awake, is that internet addicting because the stuff I do happens to involve the internet?

No it's not.

However, if I had no internet for a few days, I think I would go slightly insane....

Also I choose to be on the internet allot and not go outside and socialize as much as society expects me too.  That is NOT addiction, its a choice as in general I don't like or want to socialize with most people, having an addiction is not a choice (past making your self getting addicted in the first place, smoking etc)

I think we can all agree, this is what 99.99999999% of the users on this forum will be like without internet :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MvPojsaTwg

Yeh totally.  Life (these days) would totally suck balls for most people without internet, including myself.  I would rather die to be truthful than not have access to internet.  Trying to be "social" would get tiresome very fast.

The only bad thing about that video is hes using alienware.

No, that doesn't imply it. I was asking how do you know that Japanese kids aren't addicted? (I do realize using the internet doesn't necessarily mean someone is addicted)

Can you point out when the video made it seem like so?

actually, by definition, an adiction is something/someone/some act in which if you do not partake in it, your anxiety and stress levels increase. and you have a great focus on it, if it is not there in the present.

don't know how to explain in english. basically, if you want it when you aren't using/doing/seeing it, and you feel more calmer around it. it is an adiction.
