Will a samsung 950 PRO m.2 512GB SSD go on my Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard?

I have never used m.2 so I don't know anything about it and I just wanted to know if there is a compatibility thing between m.2 and whatever other m.2. Thanks

It should, but have in mind, that the Gigabyte Z97 boards only support speeds up to 10Gb/s= ~1,25 GB/s. I intended to get the 950 Pro too, refer to my signature for my specs, but I am going to use a PCIe expansion card for it. Else I would only use half of the perfomance/speed.

EDIT: As @QBtech wrote, it has something to do with the max supported PCIe lanes supported by the chipset and PCIe version 2.0 vs 3.0.

It will fit and with bios updates it will probably boot but...

It will not be as fast as you will think. The m.2 on that board is not pcie3 4x its pci2 2x.  So 10 gigabit /s max.
