AlTech

If you're phone sales are decreasing drastically, you know what you should do? According to LG, you should make more phones.

<sarcasm>Cos you know, if you fail at something you should try again until you dominate the market</sarcasm>

But seriously. Who buys LG's phones? Nobody apparently cos their sales are down.

The introduction of two marquee devices in a single year is far from a new phenomenon in the smartphone market. Fellow Android handset makers like Samsung and Sony have made a tradition out of it: Samsung with its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lineups and Sony with its biannual refresh of the Xperia Z. LG itself got into the same game late last year when it launched the premium V10 handset mere months after the LG G4 flagship.

Damnit LG. Stop now while you can. We know you can't  make good phones. We don't need you to prove this to us anymore.

LG is my favourite smartphone manufacturer ATM.

It just makes phones with features that people actually want and/or need.

Anyway , they do have a totally valid point. Every phone manufacturer (even Apple) releases more than 1 flagship device every year (maybe with the exception of HTC? Do they even have a flagship device anymore? )  .

What? LG makes awesome phones, LG G4, V10 just being some example. Try being a bit less biased

They actually still have features on their smartphones that other manufacturers have abandoned.

lg pls stahp

We know you can't  make good phones.

ehrm what? The G4 is a great phone at its current price point.

The problem is not that LG phones in particular aren't selling as well as they used to, the whole market is slowing down. We've come to a point where the only reason to ever upgrade is poor software support in the long run. The smartphone market is pretty much in the same place as Intel's desktop offering at the moment - they are selling parts to those who have something prior to sandy bridge, because everyone else sees no reason to upgrade.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

If they made an LG G4 but running Windows 10 Mobile I would buy that.

But why would you buy any other Android smartphone then?

From your response I can assume you don't have a problem with LG's specific Android implementation (or rather , UI) , but with Android itself , since you didn't mention you would like an LG G4 if it was , for example, running stock Android and not LG's stock ROM.

So why would you buy a Galaxy S6 or any other Android flagship then? It has the same problem that stops you from buying an LG G4.

Apple's phone sales are also falling, so why would they make more smartphones?

The same could be told about pretty much every smartphone manufacturer. As @Sauron said , the market is slowing down.

That is wrong.

Can you please at least moderate the bias in the initial post? The article itself is actually pretty good , but damn...

I liked the G4

Hard to find phones that are truly unbound these days.

For me, memory expansion and replacable battery are a must. Features that combat obsoletion promote value. Unlike the locked down phones made for sheep these days.

its super easy to find unbound phones.

just make sure to NOT live in north america...

Apple's phone sales are also falling

No they're not. They're in a decline at this time, as usual, because people already have the previous phone and are waiting on the next one. This isn't anything new. They already sold like hotcakes, the biggest sale Apple has had on their phones.

They do. Not even counting different sizes of the same Z model, they've so far released a successor every six months. However they have mentioned they want to cut back on that to only do one per year but they have yet to adhere to that statement.

If I recall correctly: Z1 launched at IFA 2013, Z2 at MWC 2014, Z3 at IFA 2014, Z3+/Z4 (depending on market) at MWC 2015 and finally Z5 at IFA 2015.

Question is if Z6 will debut at MWC 2016 or if they have decided to switch to the yearly release cadence and when this will be. Rumor has it they'll go for a summer release from now on.

I can't. I'm sorry but frankly I've lost all respect for Android and IOS.

If it doesn't come with Windows Mobile or a brand new original OS or new smartphone concept. Then i'm just not interested. I don't like Android and i don't want an iPhone like experience.

The reason LG can be on the decline is because most people see Samsung as Android.

Luke did mention an issue on the WAN Show last week when someone asked what kind of phone he has.

Wow, take it down a notch. LG has been known to make great phones, I love my G2 it has great battery and a great camera for buying it at $150 unlocked.   I am surprised you are not talking about Samsung, they seem to use the shotgun method of launching tons of phones and see what sticks.

My grandma has one of those old 4.0 cheap pay-by-the-minute Walmart LG phones and it's just as snappy as my iPhone 6S, and lighter. I'd use that as my daily driver if I didn't care for the camera.
