I'm going to buy an Android tablet in a few weeks but I'm not sure on the support.

Hi all,

 

My birthday is in a few weeks and I have decided I want to buy a tablet.

 

I have ruled out the iPad because I personally do not like Apple.

 

I have picked the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7".

 

I am currently watching the WAN Show and they were talking about the lack of support for many Android devices for longer than a year.

 

Is it a viable purchase to get the tablet and still have support for over a year?

What about the shield tablet?

The K1 received an update to android 6.0 and is the first device to get the upgrade that isn't from the nexus line-up.

I think the newer version is the X1, maybe take a look at that, not very expensive and you get some nice hardware for the price.

Here's my opinion on tablets in general for whatever it's worth:

I could never justify more than ~$400 for a tablet because now you're getting into laptop money where you an get an actual desktop OS

If a company is going to charge $200 or $300 or $900 for a device, they had better support it for more than 1 lousy year.  And I mean actually support it - not just one update when they feel like it, but actually keeping you up on security updates at the bare minimum and features if they are nice

I have looked at the Pixel C and it does look nice. I will check it out again.

The K1 also looks really compelling. I have been trying to not buy a tablet online but if it is from a trusted retailer (Nvidia) I might.

 

I will be doing all of my research to get the best value for money and hopefully find something that will be supported for a while.

The screen seized up on numerous occasions and they are way too expensive for my price range (around $600AUD)

Take a look at local computer stores, usually they have them in stock. Or it's sold out, that's also an option.

My sister has an iPad mini with Retina Display and it has an 8" display which is too small for me. My dad thinks so as well.

Surprised that no one mentioned the Xiaomi MiPad/MiPad 2... The MiPad was the first device to feature the Tegra K1 & it also runs on MIUI which is an awesome custom Android version made by Xiaomi... On the other hand, the MiPad 2 runs on a Atom processor (x86 architecture) & has even higher performance than the original MiPad while still being the same tablet... And the price for it is not that high as someone would expect it to be [emoji4]

It depends on the manufacturer and the price. Apple has surport for more than 2 years, other manufacturers won't probably do that.

cheap android tables are horrible I've used one $300 android tablet and it's too slow to even type on that thing and if you try to scroll a Picture based website then you get a feeling it'll explode...

either get an iPad, Surface or a flagship phone...
