Why can't devs put maximum effort into visuals for games?

LokiFire

Having great visuals does not take absolute beast hardware, a lot of it is art style and tricks.

DOOM 3 has better graphics than most modern games with Sikkmod

I only need to mention a game that easily get's trashed by it... COD BOIII... GHOSTS HAHAHA low res textures everywhere...

WHY IS IT ALWAYS LEFT TO MODS?

Because they aren't EA

It looks as if the peasants have risen up, and found swords!

But their sword's look a little short, if you know what I mean!

Good! The squires need training anyway!

When DOOM 3 came out there were no computers that would run that mod at decent settings.

Look at witcher 3, crysis 3, metro last light and then come back to complain.

Metro 2033/ LL were playable on release, you only needed a GTX 480 /580 or drop down one to high settings which looked marginally worse.

Because game engines are normally proprietary so any other dev has to make their own engine. They are difficult to make as well as resource intensive, and cost a lot of money for graphics artists etc and take great skill

since most devs focus on consoles or multiplatform they, cannot really push the details too far anyway

Some devs, especially some PC centric devs create amazing engines with amazing graphics Arma, Witcher, Metro, Crysis, Battlefield, Doom etc etc etc

DOOM 3 came out 2004 that's Nvidia 6000 series GPU's time.

Obligatory "Because consoles exist"- comment.

It's kinda true though :S

DOOM 3 pushed what was capable at that time... was a graphical power house, we RARELY get anything like that anymore, you can count Crysis but really it was a poorly made game that's also heavily CPU bound today.

name more games from 2004 that look impressive by todays standards.

Most devs just want to hit broad audiences. That's why all games look about the same on PC and console.

Only one that actually pushes anything is Witcher 3 and that's thanks to NVIDIA's crippling Gameworks LOL.

You should see Gameworks in COD GHOSTS hahaha... it's laughable.

until dawn too, I know the frame rate is god awful but it does look nice, not that the frame rate is the most important thing for a game like that.

Witcher has nice textures, it however has pretty bad lighting..

Yet again we need mods.
