1. I have a 400GB old Seagate momentus drive and i feel that I should replace it with a newer, higher capacity one because it's more than 90% full and too old to store all my valuable pictures and videos.

1.

I have a desktop (hackintosh + Windows 8 dual boot) and a MacBook Air. MBA has a 256GB SSD, and the desktop has 2x 1TB drives @7200rpm. I interchange between the 2 (3) frequently and plug my iPhone in to whichever is convenient.

So where do I keep all my music for my iTunes? I have a 2-bay NAS that I run in RAID1 (don't want drive failure to cause my to lose my whole music collection!) with 1TB drives which I store all my music and movies in. It also acts as my seedbox so my computers don't have to do the torrenting work. Another reason for using a NAS is because the MBA doesn't have enough space to store my music collection, and because it won't be available to my Mac/Windows desktop if I'm on that instead.

The 2 drives in my desktop: one has Windows on it, and the other has OSX + Ubuntu on it. I don't have an SSD for the desktop because they were out of my budget when I built my desktop, but I'm looking to get 1 (or 2) soon as boot drives when I move to the US in a couple of weeks.

1. I currently have 5 drives in my system, I have accumulated so many because I upgrade over time and these were bough over a period of 5 or more years. First I bought my 1.5TB seagate drive as I needed more storage. Then came my 300GB Velociraptor which was my boot drive (I now use it for stream). Then came my 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD as another boot drive upgrade. Then I bought a 3TB seagate drive as the other one was getting old and I needed something to mirror important files to. Last came my 240GB Corsair Neutron GTX as a boot drive upgrade.

I just have one crappy 250gb hitachi drive, one 500gb WD blue drive and one external 1tb WD passport drive for backups and some data. I can't afford more, because I am only a student at secondary school and hardware in my country is extremely expensive, so some 4tb drives would be great :)

I have my primary PC with a Samsung 840 120GB SSD for boot drive (fast, cheap, reliable). I also have two 500GB HDDs. One for some games, programs and random stuff so I don't fill up my SSD with random junk and another to record to. I'd like another 500GB HDD to raid with the video one so I can have the necessary write speeds to record 1080p YouTube videos. I also have a NAS using freeNAS running off a USB with a 1TB WD Caviar Green from an old PC. Not Ideal, but it serves for the whole family's documents :)

(Not really sure how to get a facebook link or twitter links D:)

1. I have two WD drives in my desktop and one (ofc) in my lap top. The two in my PC are 320gb that I got a while back and one 160gb (I think, or 120...) that I got from my sisters old PC, she didn't need them. I'm planing to get a better PC than the one I have,  which is not good to be hones, and I'm going to college so a NAS would be amazing for me. Oh yes the two hdd's are not in raid, 160gb is used for windows and programs and 320gb for storage, not wery much is it -_- and in my lap top I have has a 750gb drive in it, 120gb for windows, drivers and programs, the rest is for storage.

My configuration:

Boot

1 240GB  Mushkin SSD Boot- Friend had a spare and wanted an SSD

1 320GB  WD Blue-  Original boot, out of case, mirrored backup

Media Storage

1  1TB    WD Green

1  1.5TB Seagate

2  2TB    WD Green

2  3TB    WD Green

All individual volumes, purchased by cost as needed, with 500 GB of space still free.  My plans for a Linux server in a Norco 4220 with 9 TB RAID-Z2 blocks to replace that horrible config were dashed when my internship fell through, hopefully I don't have a drive go on me before next year.

currently have the build in my signature but that wasn't really voluntarily

Some time ago this year, I won a water-cooling set for my desktop. Unfortunately while my own desktop was there
The shop was on Fire. http://translate.google.nl/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http://nl.hardware.info/nieuws/34659/vobis-winkel-en-build4power-in-hoogeveen-getroffen-door-brand

So because of the heat / fire I lost my entire pc.. it took months before I got a new one and it was paid by my insurance..
This is why I have Seagate 3TB's in my current build...

However I didn't have a backup of al my storage (which was 7TB in total and existed of 2 * 2TB WD Green, 1 * 2TB WD Black and 1TB Samsung)

So I do really need to look at the future and make a plan for a serieus back-up, however I don't really have the money to supply the need at this time :P

I got a Intel 330 128GB SSD and a WD Caviar Black 2TB. The SSD is obviously for my boot-drive and my most frequently played games. WD is just for random storage, I have videos, games, programs etc. stored on it. I really would rather have a couple of Raid 0/1 storage for other stuff, and just keep the Caviar Black for games. ;)

At first when I bought my new gaming rig, I wasn't even thinking of getting a SSD, but it came as sort of a "freebie" if you will. Our local PC-hardware store had this bundle for 500€, it included a Maximus V Formula Mobo, 3570k CPU and the Intel 330. So, when you think of it, the mobo cost at the time 260€, CPU 220-240€ and the SSD 130€. So if I had bought them separately, it would have been well over 600€. Free SSD's FTW! :D

The Caviar Black I bought from another Hardware store. It was a warranty return, with still 1-year warranty. It retailed at the time for about 160-180€, and I bought it for 99,00€, so pretty good deal IMO, still in its sealed bag, brand new.

I am really hoping to get some more storage, because I am already running low on it! Still really happy about, how cheap I got these parts, considering the retail price of them, I saved about 200€.

I run a setup like this, because it allows me to get the best of both worlds. Super fast SSD storage, if needed, and pretty damn fast HDD storage for random crap. Pretty cool stuff IMO :D

okay im new here so here it goes!! I have an intel 256gb boot drive (ssd) and I have 1 500gb media drive (Seagate hdd) the reason I would love this as I do karting and I film it on my go pro hero 3, my current 500gb media drive is full and I have had to stop filming a I have filled this :(

the reason i have these hard drives is i have had D.O.A's before from both company's and they are great customer service and have replaced them. the reason i chose them in the first place as they were highly recommended by a it specialist!

 thanks for your time

  • I have a couple Cavalry 1TB and 2TB external drives that I use occasionally for backups over e-sata. I chose e-sata drives back in the day because that's given you USB3 speeds ever since 2006. I like to keep some of my storage mobile, which protects against the house burning down so you can have a decent disaster recovery plan. It's also sometimes convenient to take these drives to a friend's house/lan party, etc. My buddies were always having issues with extremely low transfer rates over their USB2 drives. I never have or will trust any cloud backups -- I think the cloud is a gimmick and is highly vulnerable to spying by cloud employees.

  • 2 1TB Hitache Deskstar drives in software raid1 in my current build. This is my primary system storage and raid1 ensures against a single drive failure. Despite the "deathstar" name these drives have been colloquially assigned by many people, I've had 0 issues with these drives or the raid since I first bought them in 2008.

  • For the OS drive, I did have a first-gen OZC Vertex 60GB ssd (for speed and was still quite expensive back in 2009), but that died after 2 years (aka, the warranty period) so I've been running on a spare 500GB Samsung mechanical drive from 2007 as the OS volume (because I needed an OS drive.) I can definitely feel the burn of sata II speeds...never buying any of OCZ's products ever again though.

1. When I built my computer 3 years ago SSD-s were still small size and expensive so I chose 1TB Samsung F3 HDD on recommendation for cheap, reliable and silent HDD. Few months after that, I bought a 2TB WD Green for storage. Both have been working perfectly for 3 years. Now that SSD-s became "cheaper"/larger, two months ago a bought a Samsung 840 Basic 250GB. It is silent and fast, and I could afford it :) Reads are excellent and writes are Ok, and since I don't write huge amounts of data I am very happy with it. I installed Win 8 Pro on it and it just flies. Boot time is way under a minute.

That's it. I'm extremely happy with my setup.

Future plans: maybe creating a NAS for the entire house.

EDIT: I also have an external 1TB WD My Book for recording IPTV

1: I was using a 2nd hand PC that came with a Barracuda 160GB HDD. Then i decided to build one and after months of gathering resources i've build my own PC thou i moved the HDD from the old one. The PC didn't feel new because of the speed of the Storage device. Then i decided it's time to dive in to the SSD market and bought the best one atm : the Samsung 840 Pro (128gb). My thought process was "I want something that i can probably use in the future as well and with this 5 yr warranty it's like it's going to live longer than me :) " Honestly i wasn't a storage freak until recreantly there was no more space in my (total) 280 gig config. So i am currently waiting for some money income to go and buy some HDD. Probably going to go with the Red because you guys recommend it so much and Slick bought 4 of them (that's a big tell right there :D). For OS and games installs the SSD is awesome , for everything else the HDD is good enugh. I'll go as far as to say that HDD speed isn't enugh for games anymore, i'm tired of waiting one minute to load a particular game when my ssd does it in 5-10 seconds.

Currently i'm running a 128GB ssd from Kingston for my OS and all the frequently used programs, and an WD red 3TB for all my other storage i do this because i want to have some reliable storage (even without raid) and i use wd for that because i love there warranty and support.

I also building a server atm with 4 x 500gb drives, but it would be nice to run some WD's in it.

1.  Hi

I have 5 old HDD (a pair of 300 GB and the rest 146 GB, two 146 GB in raid zero) in my rig and a Samsung 840 (120 GB).

I've the 840 because I wanted some speed and it was cheaper than the other SSD's.

The raid array was actually just a test if it was possible with windows 8 stripped volumes, and it turned out good so all my games are there.

I do some video editing so i need a lot of storage. I ask every ones old pc crap and pick the HDD for my system and the rest goes away.

A teen who just bought himself a gaming system hasn't got a lot of money so that is a big problem with those full HD files.

Once in a while I do backup my schoolwork and unfinished projects on an external HDD.

I am currently running out of room on my external HDDs, at the moment I have a 2TB HDD and a 1TB HDD.

The reason why I chose to have external HDDs was because at the time I didn't have the money to spend $600 on HDDs for a raid configration, so a quick $140 for 2TB external HDD was all I could manage.

Another reason I don't have internal HDDs is mainly because my case doesn't have any room to hold them.

I have a lot of important files that I can't afford to lose if a Drive fails, so I am planning on making a NAS using raid 1 or 10 ( using 4 drives)

I would also love for the opportunity to view my files from my NAS without having to turn my main computer on.

Currently I have to have my computer on, copy a movie over from my HDD to the shared drive, and copy that movie onto a laptop so my mum can watch a movie in the TV room.

Having a device that is independent from my main computer would save a lot of time, and being in a solid raid configuration, my media will be safe from the worst case scenario.

I run a quite old and slow 1TB seagate hard disk that came with my dell pc and a 2TB Nas for centralized storage for movies, but it is only really usable for backups because our network runs on wifi and 100mbit lan.

In my PC I have Samsung 840 Pro 128GB as boot drive since it's one of the fastest SSD. I would have gone with 840 Evo 250 GB but it wasn't available when I bought my PC. For games and file storage I use WD Blue 1TB internal drive since it's quite fast and also quiet. For backups I use external Samsung 1TB HDD because it was one of the faster ones few years ago.

1. I got 2 SSD's 1 for boot and the other for demanding games, not in raid unfortunately 2 different brands. I got 2x500GB drives for storage/games wich are full to bursting and i got

2 IDE drives 160 and 80 GB that i can only use with a dock and they too are full to the brim. I wanted to buy a bigger harddrive for a long time now but different things came up. The SSD's are Corsair Force 3 and Samsung 830, Corsair is 120gb and Samsung is 128, I only bought 1 of the drives new and it's one of my 500GB ones, the other storage drives were second hand ones i got cheap. I'm one of those hoarders who never throws anything away from my computer unless it's really necessary so it has resulted in me getting more and more drives and big drives were expensive 6  or 7 years ago

years ago I got 2 500GB Samsung drives with my new PC and as time went on I kept buying additional drives because I ran out of space all the time and buying lots of big drives at once was too expensive -.-

so after sticking to the brand I already knew, my setup looks something like this

main system:

2x3TB Seagate, 4x 2TB Samsung, 120GB Samsung SSD - everything as simple separate drives

( bought the Seagate drives after Samsung stopped making HDDs and at the time these were the cheapest alternative )

backup "server":

3x750GB Samsung, 3x1TB Samsung - AS ONE BIG STRIPE RAID !!! ... that's one horrible way to backup data ..

expecially when one of those 1TB drives might have broken sectors xD

I seriously need some decent backup solution!

1) I'm currently running a deskop with a Corsair Force 3 SSD and with a WD RE4 500GB HDD for my internal storage and an IOmega 1TB Prestige for backing up any important files. I'm using the SSD for storing my programs whereas my HDD for games and music. Music [i spend hours finding good tracks on Bandcamp], documents, and game DLC [artwork, wallpapers] go on the external backup drive.

I chose the WD HDD as it had the best reviews on it and the fact it could run 24x7 meant the ability to leave my computer switched on most of the time. My dad is using a WD Elements external HDD since over a year so I felt it was a good brand to buy from as well as reviews suggested it was rock solid. I spent the extra buck for a RE4 as it was an enterprise grade HDD which basically meant it would never fail for an average consumer as well as since it was rated highly, the chances of it failing were minimum and I would not need to install everything from a backup if something did go wrong. [i'm lazy, I know that :P ]  The reason I'm entering the giveaway is because I could really use those HDDs. The fact I got a 500GB HDD is really beginning to pinch me right now and I could use a little more space, hence I'm entering.

I am using the SSD as the technology got a lot of push in general for being fast by the tech community and I picked it off cheap @180$ a year back. I too wanted to experience the night and day difference which everyone spoke of.

I got the 1TB HDD a few years back on my birthday; and this was before I was even introduced to computers and bought it since I was running out of place for backing up my photos and videos on my old 120GB HDD on my old laptop. While I did not research for the IOmeage, I chose it because it was the cheapest 1TB solution on the market at the time and it had a three year warranty which appealed to me.
