People need to lay off AMD and them needing a new architecture.

LokiFire

NVIDIA are no saint when it comes to reusing Architectures, they did it for 3 generations with G80.

Fermi and Kepler are not that much different either, some stuff from Fermi was kept for Kepler, but Kepler also did have some new toys.

AMD can go ahead with another GCN version, there is nothing wrong as at the end of the day the end result is what matters, stop being such cry babies and be cheerful for once you are getting a great product.

AMD have come light years ahead lately and deserve a bucket load of credit.

Not everything is "laying on AMD" for GPUs tho..

Mostly CPUs..

I think OP was inspired by the Nvidia dickriders in the Polaris thread in the news section.

The people talkng about needing a new architecture have no idea what they're talking. GCN has been amazing in all its iterations. What has held them back has been drivers. Software is not AMD's strong point.

I dont think many people have an issue with the gpu side of things as amd has cards that are fairly competitive on the high end. Its just the the cpus are lacking in a big way, and need a lot of work done...

ZEN can only be as good as it will be, if it succeeds i will be very happy about it, but AMD's GPU department are in a totally different state from the CPU side.

Lol, I'm the same. People just seem to misunderstand what I'm about and compare to people who are actually AMD fanboys. I don't hate Nvidia's products. I just hate their politics.

Because continuing to use a half decade old architecture is fine? You have your circle jerk over here and you have your circle jerk over there. Why? Because someone has an opinion.

You think intel has gone miles away from Sandy?

There was nothing wrong with rebadging the 200 series, as long as the 300 series beat Nvidias lineup in value for money in majority of price brackets, rebadge or not a rebadge, if the architecture is good and supports DX12, which it does, there's nothing wrong with that

Looking back i wish AMD dropped the node on Phenom II and created Phenom III, but that's something that has gone.

Hey sure, why not? If it makes you guys angry I'll go with it.

Perfect example of what I'm talking about right here.

I'm not wrong though, they could advance, they don't want to. I do agree with you on their drivers though, that always refreshes the life of products but they've done a SPECTACULAR job with that. /s

My like comes with a caveat. I want a premium version of one of the cards, completely serious. There are no premium 390's while the 970 gets a 100ME.

Oh i'm not angry i was just saying, if you think GCN is old, maybe look at intel's ball game yet it's the most popular brand out there have seen tiny increases in most things from Sandy.

GCN however has made considerable leaps, and yes i know we are comparing CPU's to GPU's, but if AMD were a leader in the market and software was on par (it was when i used it) then i think peoples views would be very different.

People just want them to be more competitive because its better for consumers that way, i want them to a a realistic threat to Nvidia to keep them honest :)

You'd be amazed at the amount of people that don't understand the concept of competition and actually want AMD to fail as a company.

The problem is that you actually think Nvidia is ahead in architecture because they use a different naming scheme. GCN 1.2 has everything Maxwell has (with the obvious exception of CUDA). Efficiency, better compression and tessellation performance. The difference is that AMD didn't skimp on compute capabilities on the actual cards. According to you, the name is more important than what the actual architecture does.
