Best cooler for 4790k

Go to solution Solved by Clear17Mud,

phanteks Evolv ATX and under around 100 or below

ok still  for Air = NH-D15(the s version has only 1 fan) (probably better performing then then the water cooler)

but for

Water = corsair h110

So i was wondering what the quietest CPU cooler is for a 4790k

any format. air or water

The coolest and quietest is going to be a custom water cooling loop with a large radiator and more lower-rpm quiet fans.

Air: be quiet! Dark Rock 3

AIO: EK XLC Predator 360 (turn dem fans down)

If that doesn't help, then Custom Liquid Cooling my friend.

I second the be quiet, used it myself and is rather nice.

Just make sure your case can fit it.

Water = custom watercooling loop, or the expandable ones work pretty good.

corsair h80i or h60 are pretty good coolers. If you wanna go double rad then the h100i GTX or X61.

Yeah from what I heard they are excellent coolers, only if be quiet packed the right tools to mount it that is. But hey I have long needle-nose pliers to use.

Jealous of your case. Since it has a window I'd recommend going AIO with a Kraken x61 or H110 but a Noctua DH-15 will be quieter and cooler

It'd be the coolest but not the quietest. The quietest would go to air cooling with a NH-D15--at least with stock fans.

I missed the part where you said under $100. NH-D15 is the way to go then. Cheap, quiet, and cool.

Why do you say not the quietest? While I agree with your decision for air cooling if that's what he wants to do, there are some pretty quiet fans out there. Just don't see why a radiator changes that.

EDIT: Alright, see his post on budget, so agreeing with you on this budget.

Water cooling adds pump noise.

Water cooling adds pump noise.

Ahhh... Well my computer is effectively a jet turbine, so I don't hear it at all. I'm sure it isn't nearly as bad as fan whine as it is a much lower pitch, at least in my case. This lower frequency carries less energy, so has less penetrating power than a higher pitch, so I, as well as others, are much less likely to hear it in an enclosed box.

With that said, you are very correct.

Just chiming in here: I have the NH-D15 running with 2 fans atm, can't hear it unless I jam up my ear next to it, and my cpu never goes above like 55-60 degreed under the heaviest of loads, like running two games at once or whatever, and that is probably because of my 7970 spitting hot air into it ;) Top reccomend on the D15, really awesome if you can afford it, it's a bit pricey as far as coolers go.

Main Rig: Cpu: Intel Core i7 4790k CPU Cooler: NH_d15 GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD7970 Windforce III MOBO: Msi Z97 Gaming 5 RAM: HyperX Fury 1600 8gb white SSD: Samsung 840 evo 250gb PSU: Corsair CX750M Case: NZXT H630 white

PC peripherals: Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster T27B550 Keyboard: Logitech G105 Mouse: Logitech G700s Headphones: Logitech G430
