High temps on R9 280X? help

Hi. I recently bought an R9 280X used from a guy on kijiji. Anyways, the card works perfectly and quietly so I thought to myself maybe I should slightly overclock the card. I used MSI afterburner to overclock and valley benchmark to test it. The default settings shocked me because at idle it was 40C and when I let benchmark run for 10min and I saw it reach 90C when the fans were working at 56%.(card throttles at 95C) I manually adjusted the fan curves so that it prevents it from going that high and lowered the core voltage to reduce the heat. while I was able to squeeze some juice out of it with achieving 84C after 20min, I still feel like It is not meant to be that way because the fan doesn't make such a good noise. The card looks clean so dust aside. Any thoughts? I was thinking on reapplying the thermal compound and deep cleaning the fans to maybe get the temps lower. Please let me know what you think. oh and my PC is brand new and has lots of air flow. Specs in the below. Thanks for the help

I wouldn't have overclocked that personally, If your case has good airflow and the voltages aren't dangerous, than its probably an issue with the card itself.

Current Build: Core i7 4790k @ 4.6, Asus Maximus VII Hero, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz 8gb (2x4gb), GTX 980ti, NZXT Kraken X61, Fractal Define R5  EVGA Supernova B2 850w, Some 300gb hard drive.

This is the thing though. I got it used and it doesn't have any warranty on it. RMAing it is not an option so I will have to get my hands dirty.

Any Idea on what thermal paste and thermal pad I should use for this card?
