intel has done that for every single product generation, it gets given a code name for development then a product name at release.
intel does it for everything chipsets, NICs, SSDs, and it's not even news.

Just go check Intel ARK. It'll list old and new processors their generation, and the architecture will still be Skylake.

I thought they never used codenames for advertisement? Like on TV, they always say "4th generation!" or "5th generation!" Never mention the name Haswell or Ivy-Bridge in any commercial. Only techy people like us are aware of these code names.

Skylake is the codename. The actual name is 6th gen. They been doing this since the Pentium 1.
