I doubt that.  Intel CPUs have kept excellent resale value in recent years because they keep increasing prices of the new stuff and the performance increases are incremental.  And given you seem to have won the silicon lottery with that chip, that should only help its resale value going forward.

 

The one thing that could bring down CPU prices - new and resale - is if AMD releases 4 and 8 core Zen processors towards the end of the year that are competitive with Haswell.  If they started selling an 8-core/16-thread chip for $600-700 USD, you'd probably lose a few hundred bucks in resale value overnight.  It's anyone's guess whether that will happen though.

You consider the 6700k a downgrade overall that's pretty much all I was waiting for someone to say in gaming I would consider it an upgrade but that the only positive I can think of moving over to the 6700k.

 

At 4.8GHz the difference will be negligible, and perhaps non-existent.  And in CPU-intensive games you might even come out ahead.

 

You could always compare your rig's performance with published benchmarks to get a better sense of whether there's any negative tradeoff.

I'm not for one second hating on AMD TBH until I could afford intel stuff I stuck with amd all the way to the FX line of CPU's but after that I upgraded to Ivy bridge 3770k which I later sold towards my 5960x but I can't see amd taking the crown this time around I think they will catch up a bit maybe to the Ivy Range and I hope they do but I think Zen will be AMD's new start for some great CPU's in the future which will hopefully stop intel ripping people off.

I cant find many benchmarks for the 6700k where they have used two Titan X's the benefit of my CPU is it has 40 PCI-e lanes meaning I can use 16x 16x instead of just 8x 8x on a 6700k which also has an impact on performance of around 2-5 fps depending on game.

Ok guys think i'm gonna stick with the 5960x and the 64gb of ram I have however I am going to sell my motherboard for a standard ATX board rather than the E-ATX one I have as I would like to get the Define S case but my board wont fit how much do you think the Xpower x99a board is worth I would like to be able to get the MSI gaming 7 x99 I know it's a slight downgrade but I don't use the wifi or the Bluetooth features and I also don't see a reason for two lan ports maybe someone could tell me what the point of having two is as I am fairly knowledgeable of PC's but this doesn't make much sense to me.

Dual LAN is usually for extremely high speed network connectivity or redundancy.

What I want to know is why in the world, would anybody GIVE UP a 5960X (which can be overclocked rather high with ease) to a 6700K? It's a worse CPU, no matter how you look at it, and there will be games that will use the extra power. I just can't fathom it.

It sort of depends on the workload for gaming yeah the skylakes are probably best at the moment but only marginally from what people have been telling me it will only be 5fps at most in most games but any multithreaded workload I think the 980X could still come close if it were overclocked a bit.

my god, your 5960x must be like the best chip intel ever made. 1.5ghz oc on 1.36v... that chip will last untill it dies. usually when i see those 5690x's and their beautiful and majestic 8 cores 16 threads compared to my 4690k's mere 4 cores and 4 threads i say to my self " it only runs at 3 ghz, your 4690 will destry that crap in single cored perfomance" no when i see your 4.8ghz oc (compared to my mere 4.5) i single tear is shed.... oh the jealousy T_T
