7 Gamers, 1 CPU - Ultimate Virtualized Gaming Build Log

LinusTech

I see air bubbles in the Nano's water block. It kinda drives me nuts.

Also, after the CES showcase thing, get this thing back and get a single copy of Windows on the entire 56-thread 7 GPU monster. No VMs. Then run 3DMark.

Though, I do want a follow-up, highlighting the problems and how you fixed those. Something that's a bit longer than 15 minutes. This tower deserves more.

Ye ole' train

Seeing an awesome rig like that without proper testing is frustrating. Playing Crysis on one and benchmarks on other 6 tells me that it doesnt work or there are some serious issues.

30k / 7 = 4286 per player. Even with a $1300 monitor, that's about $3000 per player for the PC itself. Safe to say, buying 7 PCs is more cost-effective. Disappointing.

Great build still, a good experiment.

the only thing missing is what the temps say (even if there are some faulty sensors, the cards will not vary much so if one card says 70°C the others will be in that range too). CPU temps would be also nice to know. But nice project @LinusTech

I just... wow. This is incredible. Really shows off what can be done with the PC.

Although, I have to ask... why G-Sync monitors with AMD GPUs? Why not the FreeSync version of the G34 Predator, the XR341CK? Because of the higher refresh rate of the G-Sync version?

i guess because they had them around in the office?

A great video, probably one of my faves! I have been using virtualized desktops on a single host machine for the last few years now and have always wondered why there's no big adoption of the process... Using one rig as firewall, iSCSI SAN, media NAS, Windows Server, and two windows home theatre PCs with dedicated GPUs saves a ton of power and space. i guess it's just not widely known about... still can't figure out why you'd use unraid though with free better supported options like Xen around which have better baremetal performance and lighter weight hypervisors. even vmware esxi would have been a credible alternative  :/

I'm on a horse...

How much was the 7-gpu EK  bridge?

Probably free as sponsorship, but very expensive otherwise.

It would be nice to tell us temperatures.

As he said in the video, it was custom designed so you probably can't just see it in their store. Otherwise, they probably got it for free because they get sponsored by companies to use their stuff in the videos
