Did I totally miss the vocaloid thing?

Elardoven

So I just recently got into playing Osu and have really been enjoying it. I had found some music by Hatsune Miku that I liked, and when I googled the name to find some more music by her, I realized that she was actually a "vocaloid". I then realized that there were actual live performances with vocaloids on stage. Did any of you know about this? I must have totally missed this somewhere along the way.

My Build: i7-4790K, 212 Evo, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600, Intel 730 240GB SSD, WD Blue 1TB, EVGA GTX 980Ti ACX 2.0, NZXT H440 Blue/Black, EVGA 650W 80+Gold.

Most of the time, it's not the computer, it's the person using it.

Geez, so much hate for vocaloids on this forum.

I like quite a bit of vocaloids music, mostly by Kagamine Rin and Gumi. But there's also some good miku stuff.

Idk, what's so bad about it? I thought it was pretty cool.

Edit: Too bad I can't actually understand the language though. But I really like listening to it.

The vocaloid songs are mostly community-created content...

You should check out DECO*27's creations...

I'm not too sure about the rest...

Also dafuq with the vocaloid hate??

Down to you, you are a pretty sound guy asfaik.

Some people take it too far, WAYYYY too far. Do you know one ticket costs over $200? Front rows sometimes peak at $1000+ (all for the "sound" ofc).

Body pillows, saying "waifu", "learning Japanese", cosplaying.

The list goes on.

I don't consider it music and the community is just... It started off as a simple synthesizing program but people gave the different audio profiles background stories and make weird very weird movies out of them??

What I also don't kindda get is why the girls are always so young, they are near always 16. And lets just say the clothing and target audience is, erghh, "questionable".

This is why I won't watch anime also. (or, one of the reasons at least)

I only read the Bleach manga now and when that's over I am done as well. It's just, if it isn't a shounen it probably involves extremely androgynous men etc. Generalizing, I know, but still. Plus the behaviour of the community is just eh...(don't mean the LTT one)

Same, but the art has changed since then, or the style, or maybe it's just me.

Eh, I like Vocaloid, anime is chill too (Except the level of fanservice...can I watch my show without exploiting the features of the female cast please?).

However, remember to take things with a pinch of salt since different cultures cause different values and stuff. Vocaloid is pretty well considered, its like popular edm or something. I think the "age" of the vocaloid characters is to help convey the plan for the sound of the vocaloid (Miku is considered cute sounding voice, Luka is considered a mature sounding one). Japan has a completely different music culture too take into account (Idols and such...BabyMetal is a good example I guess).

Facinating stuff (well do me anyway...culture and language is da stuff yo). Miku's English Voicebank was altered to make her sound more "mature" out of a worry of potential issues with pedophilia and other messed up stuff because of her gemerally young and cute voice. Or so I've read.

Vocaloid as a software is pretty cool, synth voice/singing and all. Could be used to bring some long dead legends to life and such. Too bad it gets the relatively bad image of the anime community. Not unwarranted, but a little blown out of proportion. I find vocaloid more a facinating way for artists to express their feelings, stories, and ideas through song, giving a voice to those who may not be able to sing well or lack musical talent, but know their way around a music program.

Japan is bad for CP, very bad.

Age of consent is 13 and a estimated 35% of "service workers" in the Tokyo red light district are 18 or below.

Real CP was leagal until somewhere in middle 2014, so that's fun.

Anime and manga industry is one of the largest in the entertainment industry, and ofc hentai makes up a significant part, of which is "lolicon" or "shotacon", CP in manga form. This is still 100% legal and if you use the Googles you cane find some quite amusing stories with that and the EU.

Age of consent nationally is 13 due to penal code, that is a fact. However there is a law called the Child Welfare Act, which prohibits adults from having sex with anyone under the age of 18.

Sure, Anime and Manga has hentai, I don't deny or refute that. I honestly couldn't care for it, nor am I interested in that. CP Isn't something I endorse, like or approve of. In any case it is prevalent, sadly, in just about every country in the world. 27-36 Million slaves are in the world today. Some are bought and sold globally, in every country, as sex slaves. Happens in Japan, China, Korea, Australia, US, UK, Germany, Russia, Italy, Egypt, so on and so forth. It is sickening.

However, I find Anime and Manga, the kind that is made with the same care, attention, and story as a pixar film or another animated tv show or movie to be enjoyable. Labeling a whole community of people who are interested in something and ostracizing it due to the fact that they tend to be into it is stupid in my mind. Its like saying that Star Wars fans who are really into it, dress up in costumes and act out characters + all the random crap they do = bad people. If so the 501st Legion would be terrible, but they help charities and such. They're good people.

So like in all things, the bad is magnified more than the good. People dislike anime, manga and Japan over perceived "evils". "Anime and Manga is stupid and bad because it has Hentai and all sorts of crap". Sure, but that is just one part of the whole community. Plenty of people watch anime, enjoy it, but its like watching Breaking Bad, NCIS or Family Guy to them. I know lots of people who like anime, but watch only a show or two and that is it.

I guess what I'm saying is, like with everything, Anime and Manga has its good and bad parts. While I acknowledge the good and bad, labeling a country based on a entertainment industry would be poor and wrong. Japanese people find people who are crazy and obsessed with anime and manga to be weird as well. Otaku is not a good term in Japan. It means one is so obsessive that they take it too far. While a bit more accepted now, its not something you want to run up to someone and say "I'm Otaku" in Japan. Japanese people, like any other country, are like the people you know in your communities. You'll find that true just about everywhere. People worry about their kids, mortgages, their friend's health, their job, so on and so forth. They're living and have similar morals and ideas. And if the Culture causes differences, that's okay. Different isn't necessarily bad, what is considered bad in one country can be seen as good in another. That's culture, differences between people and ideas. Diversity.

Embrace differences, maybe not ones morally damaging in pretty much every country and culture in the world.

There are lots of lies and myths about Japan, same as the US and every other country in the world. Don't be quick to pick them all up.
