I'd assume that the maximum amount of storage you could have is just how much the ATA standard supports. Taking a look.

You're definitely not going to find anything that recent that it'll support, but I'm finding 60GB and 80GB  desktop drives pretty easily.

 

EDIT: Used 300GB ones exist. You can get a decent amount of storage.
