Do the fans spin opposite directions but have the blades tilted the other way to created a vortex or do they spin the same way? Seems pointless to have two fans together if they are exactly the same.

For a business 264TB of storage isn't much at all. The disk arrays I use for backups are 500TB each in two different cities, replica copies of each other of course so only 500TB usable not 1000TB. The non-deduplicated data size is actually around 4.5PB though, deduplication is the best thing ever created for data storage :)

Do the fans spin opposite directions but have the blades tilted the other way to created a vortex or do they spin the same way? Seems pointless to have two fans together if they are exactly the same.

I don't think these have two fans together, looks like it has a single rotating set of blades than a fixed set to create a directed airflow.

Do the fans spin opposite directions but have the blades tilted the other way to created a vortex or do they spin the same way? Seems pointless to have two fans together if they are exactly the same.

It appears to be a pair of counter rotating fans. This increases efficiency because the second fan will help to remove the vortices created by the first fan, spinning air is wasted power, laminar flow is king for cooling (and propulsion).

That said even if the fans are the same it will still boost cooling, though to a lesser extent. It also provides redundancy, if one fan fails, there is still airflow through its location, and more importantly, something keeping air from recirculating back from the other good fans.

I don't think these have two fans together, looks like it has a single rotating set of blades than a fixed set to create a directed airflow.

If that were the case the fixed set would have to be in the back. You can't pre-swirl air into a fan to generate laminar flow, you have to correct it afterwords.

Looks like one set of blades to me, and something like the Noctua NF-F12 style fan director things.

Good eye. I misinterpreted the direction the server was facing in the video and thought it would have to be counter-rotating assemblies to have the airflow make sense. Turns out that the side facing us was the exhaust side of the fan, and its only one set of blades, with a deswirler on the back to force laminar flow out the back.

question: i have old hp server with 8 2.5tb drives (146 gb sas drives) yea thats not to mutch storage so i would like to upgrade that. so it costs 200 euro's for 3 "cheap" 1.5 gb drives from seagate with wil give me 3TB in raid 5, or 260 euro's for the wd red 1TB drives . would i be ok with the cheap dirves or wil my server "chake them to pieces"? (sorry for my english)
