How to lock monitor at 60hz

Xarvz

After building a silent computer, it turns out my monitor (Acer GD245HQ) has a really annoying buzz at 120hz. It's 4 years old and out of warranty so I just want to lock it at 60hz until I replace it. The problem with it changing is for some reason the game I play changes it to 120hz even though it's set to 60hz in game... This only seems to happen in fullscreen windowed, I don't wanna stay in fullscreen because of the annoying black screen between switching in and out of the game. Also, for the some reason when tabbed into the game itself my monitor doesn't make a loud buzz at 120hz I'm not sure why though. It seems random tones depending what program I'm in or what google chrome tab I'm in lol. Gmail being the most annoying buzz tone xD

Edit: I also had found this http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/HardwarePeripheriques/Ecran/unique-gd245hq-fullhd-sujet_49673_41.htm#t636956 But I really don't want to break my only monitor so Id just rather lock it for now.

Is the game Insurgency?

It's SWTOR :P Though this happens If I have the monitor at 120hz with no games open.

Right click desktop, screen resolution, advanced settings, monitor, change your refresh rate and apply.

Thing is that I have similar problem with insurgency. Even with vsync with fullscreen borderless I get 200+ fps and its really unstable.

In your Crimson/Nvidia control panel, set your display mode to 60Hz at native resolution. If it doesn't exist, you can create a custom resolution profile set to 60Hz.

The game changes that when I set it to 60hz. I didn't wanna create I custom one because It of the warranty void thing. Maybe I'm just being a little stupid not creating a custom one.

I can't because this game runs as admin so it changes it anywhere I set it, though I haven't tried making a custom resolution with only 60hz as the refresh rate yet.

Ahh. Well see the thing about Windows is that it overrides any settings done by anything else. Your monitor should still be locked to 60Hz even when you start the game.

I will try it again, but I did that already and it still changed.

When I close the game they revert back to 60hz, when I tab in and out in fullscreen in changes back and forth from 120hz to 60.

So I just tested out a custom resolution with 75hz and when I booted up, the game switched my profile back to the one that has 120hz.... I don't even know.... Also, the config file seems to stay at 60 when it's running my monitor at 120hz.
