NAS Hard drive in desktop

Does it makes sense to put a NAS hard drive like the WDRed  in a desktop over the wd blue if its only slightly more expensive($5)?

You would probably get longer life out of it. It doesn't run any different tho. If it's within your budget I would say to do it.

worth it IMO, nas and server gear usually last long and are a bit tougher.

Absolutely. I use a 2TB red drive as my data drive. Great for games and music. The 3D balance and 5400rpm speed make it very quiet and free of vibration and to top it off it has good sequential performance. Combined with the 50% longer warranty it is a great choice for desktop storage.
