you could build a MUCH better machine that is at least 3 times faster

 Like 75,000PPD maybe a little more or less. Those are really weak CPU and GPU for folding

 Like 75,000PPD maybe a little more or less. Those are really weak CPU and GPU for folding

I fiqured if im gonna leave it on all the time. I might as well be folding.... plus i want to help the cancer cause.

Mac Minis I think are passively cooled so it probably thermal throttles and I don't think they have a dedicated GPU

Its only worth it if you think its worth it.

 

75k ppd is pretty average i guess. I get around 100k ppd with a gtx 670.

The PC will be okay. While not the strongest hardware out there, it's still very much worth it to fold / crunch. I'm not sure about the power consumption; regardless, it IS still worth using it for DC.

 

Just be mindful of the temperatures. I feel like cooling is going to be a challenge on that case.

And while you might be able to play wow at decent settings, considering how dated it is.

You won't be able to play almost any modern big game at high settings 1080p at a

respectable frame rate with that gpu/cpu combo, you probably won't even do decently

at medium.. that is a pretty weaksauce gpu.

If my math is right (it probably isnt)... lets say 200w under load then its (200w x 1 hour) / 1000 which is 0.2kw/h. So 3.5 cents per hour under a heavy load? Thats 84 cents if you run at 200w for an entire day.

Depends on the actual consumption of the machine. Folding really isn't that stressful, there's really no way to just know how much power a machine consumes based on it's specs alone. Only way to know is to actually measure it with a wattimeter (also known as Kill-a-Watt).

WHOA. THAT'S A LOT.

 

My buddy has the high end 2014 mac mini and he only gets like 2,000PPD.

 

Why such a big diffference?

OSX doesn't use GPU where the BIG points come from, you can only use GPU in Windows. But the other problem is the GPU is Intel HD, F@H only uses AMD and Nvidia GPUs so far.

My QX6800 build can do roughly 95,000PPD and it isn't because of the QX6800, its because of the GTX 950
