1st Gaming Rig - Need Advice Please

Go to solution Solved by JebKerman,

Thanks for the help @JebKerman.

carrying on from my previous post:

Ok, I'd go with:

S340

Antec High Current Gamer 620W

6600K

212X

Z170A PC Mate

"Stock" ram

MSI R9 390

256GB SSD

1TB WD blue

WIndows 10 Home

Everything else "stock"

makes it about 1364 USD with a more reliable PSU, slightly better graphics card, very very similarly performing CPU, much cheaper and probably quieter, though not as powerful, CPU cooler. cheaper ram that won't sacrifice performance (ram make's very very little difference unless the CPU is a bottleneck, which it shouldn't be in this case) much cheaper motherboard, though it does sacrifice the red if that's what you were going for.

Hey Guys

Planning on getting my 1st Gaming PC, I'am getting it through a PC company that specialise in building high end gaming PCs. But the range of hardware is fiarly limited. I would just like any advice on the hardware I've chosen.

CASE: Not too sure but thinking of the NZXT S340 or NZXT Phantom 410

PSU: Antec 700W High Performance Power Supply

CPU: Intel i7 6700K

COOLING: Corsair H105

MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro

RAM: 16Gb DDR4 3000Mhz Hyperx RAM

GPU: MSI GTX970 Twin Frozr V 4Gb 256Bit Overcolcked

PRIMARY HARD DRIVE: 256 SSD

SECONDARY HARD DRIVE: 1Tb WD Blue 7200Rpm HDD

OS: Windos 10

With this build, I'am currently at the max end of my budget.

Don't buy a computer from a company, build it yourself. It's way cheaper and you will learn how to take care of your computer. Also get a 390 not a 970

"boutiques" (i believe that's what they're called anyway) usually aren't too bad since they have to use common consumer hardware, rather than OEM stuff like Dell/Alienware for example.

but just in case, @Skouers, what are they charging?

About 20 000- 24 000ZAR so about 1 300 - 1 550USD

I would try get the parts and assemble it myself, just finding a reputable source for the parts is a problem.

So that is why i'am going through a company.

Yeah boutiques is one hell of a word, they are not bad, and offer good Services but kinda pricey

3rd World Problems!

But anyway, do you think its a solid build to go with?

And why should I get a 390 over the 970?

Get the s340, it has plenty of room and is great for neat cable management with the raised section next to the motherboard instead of rubber gromits

1. Get the S340

2. Get the R9 390 instead of 970

After that you're all set

that actually seems pretty good given this:

CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($103.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI Z170A GAMING PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($161.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: Kingston Savage 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($164.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Sandisk Ultra Plus 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($99.90 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card  ($347.85 @ B&H)
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (Red) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($69.99 @ NCIX US)  (only because weirdly the S340 wasn't listed for me)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($74.98 @ Mac Mall)  (probably a massively over-estimation of the cost of the real power supply)
Total: $1483.66
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

COuld you possibly provide a link to this site, the PSU seems a bit poor, given that the only 700W Antec PSU listed isn't even 80+ compliant. oh and the whole 970 vs 390 thing, the 390 is a tad batter, at about the same price

This and the power supply chamber gives a very neat look to the PC. And you can tuck away all the extra cables of your power supply in the chamber with ease.

@GarnetDevil Is the perfomance better on the R9 390 than the 970?

It is better at the same price as the 970
