Anyone lift self made weights?

LokiFire

Some of us don't care for a gym membership and no one said you NEED a set of weights to get stronger, i like to improvise and save cash.

I use tins of paint in large strong bags.

like this.

Now this is best for what you would normally call dumbell curls, and you can also use this for weighted tricep dips, just sit the weight in your lap.

For some cardio, just use 1 paint in a ruck sack, strap up the ruck sack nice and tight and make sure the weight is situated on your shoulders, not your back, this can cause some severe pain in your back if done wrong.

Much like British Army tabbing.

From a segment of the British Army website and the reg i used to serve in: sliYQs5.png

I'm not trying to do that any more, just trying to keep myself fit and strong.

I use a bar to do pull up or chin ups as you may know it, can usually max out around 7-10, it's really hard even for trained people.

Anyone else do it the make shift way?

I have Dumbbells but they're only 20KG each, I use water jugs some times, or buckets

Weight numbers do not mean anything, just lift enough so that your rep range is under 12, and you can do it for around 3 set's.

I know but I've been lifting the same 20kg for over 2 years, and now I'm not gaining anything anymore

Only reason I don't like using improvised weights is they might be imbalanced like one side may weigh more than the other but you can obviously prevent that by weighing them. Calisthenics are a great way to build muscle for free

Might be sleep or eating, i am also not a good person to talk to for a shared plan or anything, i am a ectomorph and my diet etc will be vastly different to a guy with a broader build.

I'm on a good bulk diet which is what I've stuck with since I'm not going to be a body builder, just to be and look fit

Do you maintain good form? such as a straight back and not moving your elbows at all on a dumbell curl?

If you can't maintain it lower your weight, a proper form goes a lot further than handling weight that's too heavy.

Yeah I can, I started doing high reps with low sets like 15rep 3 sets, but now I do the opposite I do 35 reps 6sets each day to keep my muscles

That's more endurance training, if you can handle 12 reps for 6 set's or more you might want to go heavier.

That's what the buckets are for

Well my own gains, i struggled with push ups in the Forces, and my body did not fully stop growing, i had zero muscle mass practically, though still strong i could do what others were doing but it hit me a lot harder, my mental fortitude got me there.

Now that i left my body recover, has put on loads of mass (muscle & fat) and is in the best shape to grow muscle and exercise.

I went from 12.8 inch biceps to now having 14.5 inch biceps, which is 1.5 inches more than an average fully grown male, do remember i am a skinny ectomorph build, except i have some fat too.

I can now push out 60-70 push ups at maximum effort, the standard to meet in the army for our regiment was 45 minimum, i would squeeze in 46 as my peak.

I can't run as far as i used to, but i don't really have to.

I used to weigh 142 LBS at 6ft, i now weigh 180 LBS at 6ft, i'm not a muscular dude though, i'm just a thick build on top of an ectomorph figure.

My biceps have no peak and it's due to the length of my muscles, but when hanging by my sides they look much nicer, my chest is also far more formed, whilst not amazing, it's getting bigger and bigger.

Also a change in diet and sleep, in the forces i would consume energy drinks and protein shakes, the shakes to try and maintain body mass as the exercise was really hard on my body.

As i said i'm not the best to ask for a plan, i'm not the norm you see from an average male :P
