Z97 is for OC

H97 have lesser features like SLi and not allow OC

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Uh no, all chipsets allow overclocking if manufacturers release the right bios.

the only real difference is that H97 boards either do not allow overclocking, or only allow a small overclock, and (as mentioned above) don't allow for SLI

If you have a K-class chip, get a Z97, or if you want to be able to overclock in future without having to change motherboards, get a Z97.

A Z-class board is a solid investment unless you're doing something like an HTPC or NAS.

Considering I can run my 4790K at 4.8GHz on my H87M Pro....it only depends on how well you scored on the silicon lottery.

what is the difference between the intel chipset h97 and the z97

A few more features with Intel officially supporting overclocking on Z97 despite motherboard manufacturers allowing multiplier overclocking on all motherboards.

yea i do know the hacked BIOS

now its a similar case with the H170 boards again

Intel will not be happy about this thou

Intel can suck a big one for all that overclockers care, as long as its possible to use an unlocked CPU on any motherboard Intel's feelings are irrelevant.

Intels feelings for enthusiast is purely economical one.

think he meant that the only boards for 1150 that have sli support are z97, not that all z97 boards support cf/sli . but yeah your right

I know. Which is why I take special pleasure in overclocking an LGA771 Xeon on an LGA775 motherboard.
