Upgrade to a 390/970 or wait for pascal?

I currently have an HD7870, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade right now or wait for pascal? Or the equivalent on the AMD side?

Late 2017 Build : Intel i7 8700k // Asus Prime Z370-A // G.Skill Trident Z 8x2 16GB // EVGA GTX 1080 Ti  // NZXT S320 Elite 

Late 2015 Build : Intel i7 6700k // Asus Maximus VI Gene Z170 //  Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Gigabyte GTX 970 // Corsair Air 240

I would wait the 9 months or so.

Good luck, Have fun, Build PC, and have a last gen console for use once a year. I should answer most of the time between 9 to 3 PST

arctic islands is even closer than pascal im waiting as well makes more sense right now seeing as the 490 will probably bring actual leaps in performance compared to jumping to a 300 if the performance is a must get a temp upgrade like a used 280 but other than that wait to get the most for your money.

No, upgrading to a 280 isn't worth it. It is one card better. (HD 7970 = R9 280x > HD 7950 = R9 280 > HD 7870 = R9 270[1])

 

[1] HD 7870 is not the same card as the R9 270

I'd pick up a 290 as they offer the same power as a 390 for a 380x price tag. You just have to make sure you get one with a good cooler. Then upgrade after the prices fall with the next series of GPUs.

Need for 290 confirmed. If you really want to get one cheap buy it used, but only from a known good seller as a bunch of them have been used for bit mining.
