MSI GTX 970 4GB to EVGA GTX 980ti 6GB Hybrid

AndromedusVega

I am debating on weather I should upgrade my current 970 to the 980ti hybrid and if I might have any power issues by doing this upgrade.  I would like to know your thoughts on this and if you would recommend another card to upgrade to.  My current setup is as follows:

  • Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3
  • Intel i7-4790K Haswell
  • Corsair H80i (Push-pull)
  • Adata XGP 32GB RAM (4x8)
  • MSI GTX 970
  • LG Blue-ray drive
  • Toshiba 2TB HDD
  • SanDisk 120GB SDD
  • 3-140mm fans
  • 2-120mm fans (not including the 2 on the H80i)
  • 800W standard power supply
  • Logitech G502 mouse
  • Razer Black Widow Chroma
  • Western Digital 1TB SSD (External)
  • Turtle Beach headset (unsure about the model)
  • Corsair 750D

FYI - I am still a beginner at PC building, so please do not get agitated when I ask a stupid question or two.  Oh and just in case you are wondering about the H80i, I originally had this setup in a 300R when I purchased the H80i for my i7.  That case barely had enough room for the H80i, let alone a H100i.

Thanks in advance!

Whats that power supply brand/make? Otherwise it could be a threat to your system as is. Please be specific and follow your own topics.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Power supply brand and model?

Even if it's moderate quality like the CX power supplies, at 800w you should be fine, but I still wouldn't risk running my system with a garbage PSU. (The CX series isn't terrible, it's just not like high end multi-gpu capable)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

The PSU, now that is a fun topic.  It says that it is a High Power PSU.  The model number is HPL-800BR-F14S.
