Age of Empires 2

GANZi

Hey, I hope this is the right subforum. I am running Win7 on my 7-8 year old Aspire One netbook and I'm trying to get Age of Empires to run on that. Problem is, I get a "DirectDraw is not available on this machine" error every time I run it. I've searched for numerous fixes online (running in compability mode, disabling the GPU etc.) and so far none of them have worked. DxDiag also reports DirectDraw as working.

Specs:

Intel Atom Z520

Intel GMA 500

2GB DDR2

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Your PC can't handle the 3D graphics of Age of Empires.

I think it's time for a upgrade!

Are you playing the original disc version, or the Steam HD version? The Steam version has higher graphical requirements than the original version.

If it's just a direct draw issue, then installing the proper driver ought to fix it. I don't know if these affect direct draw, but maybe you PC is lacking a particular C++ runtime redistributable.
