Need a gaming PC for $800!

Chocolate

Most of the games I want to play are Fallout 4, Witcher 3, CS:GO, Assassins Creed Black Flag, all at 1080p. I need it to be quiet and last me a while.

I didn't know what to choose so a friend sent me this link: How is it?

No need for an aftermarket cooler when you can't overclock on that CPU or MOBO. You can fit a R9-390 into that budget (an alternative to the 960 is the 380). A SSD can also be squeezed in. Cheaper RAM is available.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($164.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($79.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Storage: Sandisk SSD PLUS 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($38.99 @ NCIX US)

Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 390 8GB Double Dissipation Video Card  ($303.98 @ Newegg)

Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($59.99 @ Micro Center)

Total: $801.90

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Get air cooler.... if you want to be quiet. That AIO is overkill for unlockable chip.

Toss that watercooler. No need in a lower budget build. This is great! or you can change the 970 for a R9 390. I prefer the Nvidia for the DIgital Vibrance.

Why an aftermarket cooler? It's unnecessary.

Why not get cheaper RAM?

The OP didn't mention why he went NVIDIA originally. I believe it is safe to assume he doesn't care as long as he gets good performance. A 390 would do much better.

Also, both of you lack SSD' s in these builds. Trust me, that'll make all the difference for the OP.

The 390 will perform better in the majority of games and equal in very few of them.

I would recommend the build I posted.

Just for a small price premium, an aftermarket CPU is going to keep your temps low and keep the PC quieter than the stock fan. It's not too much to pay for.

Agreed. Glad people are shying away from 970's now.

But you also sacrificed a SSD. The temps will be reasonable with the stock cooler and at reasonable volumes.

I'll admit, your build is great, so the only difference I'd really make is the CPU cooler. The cooler is really better for the long run in my opinion. The stock fan runs reasonably hot so it's sort of a mandatory thing for me.
