High-end RAM on low-end MB

Loeffner

Hello everyone,

I own the Gigabyte P55M-UD2 with an i5 760.

I want to buy new RAM and a new GPU (R9 390x) now and may in one year upgrade the CPU and MB.

Now could I buy fast RAM so I don't have to pay twice? Or would I get problems because the mainboard does not support it?

Or does it simply run at lower speeds?

"High End Ram." Not so sure if such a thing exists. Just buy 1600 mhz cas 9 ram and you'll be fine if your mobo supports it.

Ram is ram. You spend $1 or even $100 dollar, ram is still ram. Ofc others works better then others, that choice is up to you to make ahah.

Sorry I should have made clear what I meant.

I am aiming for DDR3 1866 CL 9

As long as it's DDR3, you shouldn't have any problems, if it's """fast RAM""" it'll ran at the fastest JEDEC profile

What does your mobo support?

I think this is what you're looking for:

2200 MHz, 1333 MHz, 1066 MHz, 800 MHz

It is this one

Just get 1600MHz RAM. It makes no difference in gaming.

But the Board does not support 1600MHz either? And 1866 is  not more expensive...soo.. I would prefer to buy the faster one.

I just wanted to know if its fine to put the RAM mentioned above in the MB.

Yeah. It'll just down clock it to a required frequency.

Support for DDR3 2200/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

Your board does support higher frequency ram. Even if it doesn't you can still put higher frequency ram , it will just run at the frequency the mobo supports.
