Building New PC in a Couple Days, What Should I do with my Samsung 850 Pro?

Ajido
Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

there is absolutely no reason to update firmware on the 850 pro

it was the 840 evo that needed a firmware update

you should just format the drive, install windows on it, and do not install the magician software

none of the "optimizations" from magician are needed, the SSD works perfectly fine without any additional software

The Samsung 850 Pro seems like a great drive, but after reading through a lot of reviews the Samsung Magician software and associated firmware updates seem to be hit or miss. Some users report success and improvements, others say updating the firmware killed their drive and the software caused them a host of problems. I ordered one, but I don't know what to do with it after it's installed. Will I run into any issues if I choose not to update the firmware and use the software, should I go ahead and do it anyway?

I have magician on my 850 Evo and the RAPID mode enabled, I can transfer large files between partitions (so it's actually copying data) at 2.4GB/s, when it's rated at 500Mbits/s... I have 32GB of RAM though...

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, what was wrong with the 840 evo that needed the firmware update?
