Good IPS Monitor?

Hunched
Go to solution Solved by Hunched,

I ended up getting the BenQ GW2470H since it's the best 1920x1080 VA monitor under 27" but at least 24" according to everything.

There is a very in-depth review here, it's Korean: http://playwares.com/dpreview/47604706

There's also a good thread on Hardforum about MVA monitors: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1803228

Amazon guarantees it will arrive by the 24th  :)

The only possible issue I might experience with this monitor is unwanted blur from slow transitions, but reviews indicate it's not too bad.

Otherwise the responsiveness/lag of the monitor is par with IPS/PLS and unlike with IPS/PLS the possibility of backlight bleed/glow is almost non-existent with MVA.

MVA also has superior contrast and black levels to IPS/PLS.

With proper configuration I should be able to make blur a non-issue, the only real weakness of the panel type.

The color accuracy also isn't as perfect as IPS/PLS but it can be pretty close, and that isn't nearly as big of an issue as backlight bleed with IPS/PLS are plagued with.

I'm glad I researched the fuck out of this, it was fun.

This forum really couldn't have been less helpful.

1 fucking monitor suggestion from a forum with thousands always online.

It wasn't a complicated question.

I'm looking for a 24"~ 1080p IPS (or anything better than TN) panel.

Found the Asus VN248Q-P, but there's no detailed reviews of it out there: http://www.amazon.com/VN248Q-P-1920x1080-DisplayPort-Back-lit-Monitor/dp/B010VG2456

It's also called the "VN248QA" on the Asus site for whatever reason, identical in every way: http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/VN248QA/specifications/

It's pretty hard to find newer non-TN panels that aren't 1440p+, I'm fine with 1080p, lots of games drop near 60fps on max settings as it is.

I don't want ghosting or blur because I'm getting something that isn't TN. Is that a common issue?

Is 5ms low enough?

Is it good for the price?

Would you buy this?

I'm wondering if I'm missing something because almost nobody on the planet owns it this or reviewed it.

If you have monitor suggestions I'd like to hear them, otherwise I'm ordering this by Monday.

Thanks

You won't be able to buy it from the website as you are in canada, but take a look at it

I don't really have a budget, just a reasonable price for what you get really.

That monitor looks pretty good, but is AOC as reliable as Asus? I haven't heard too much about them.

Besides being an inch bigger and having a thinner bezel, it doesn't seem to different, according to a spec sheet anyway.

I wish there were some professional reviews out there just to reassure me that what I'm buying is good lol, buying a thing like a monitor without that feels like a leap of faith, I hate it.

These are things ideally I'd be able to try in person before I buy...

Well now I'm looking into this: http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-GW2470H-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B013GERDME

BenQ has some pretty good VA panels with some pretty in-depth reviews. Linus also reviewed a VA BenQ monitor in October this year and said it was the best gaming monitor to date.

VA has way better contrast ratios than IPS/PLS and the risk of backlight bleed/glow is almost non-existent with VA because of how little light they let through.

I've had to deal with backlight bleed on my TN, it wasn't too bad, but holy some of the IPS bleed on basically every IPS panel on the planet, it's a pretty big risk and looks so bad I wouldn't even want to use it.
