am3+/ am3? water cooling socket?

Go to solution Solved by Benji_w,

I having trouble figuring out if i can use a water cooler like a corsair h110i gtx/gt  on my cpu it is a amd fx-8320. i know it say amd am3 but my socket is a amd- am3+ and wanting to know if it is still compatible and will work?? thank you

AMD has used the same socket for years, AM2 and AM3 or even FM socket will fit.

Tl;Dr: Yes will fit

It'll work. The three thing to consider are the mounting, the thickness of the CPU and the cooling requirement. All of which are compatible. There are processors for AM3+ that can't be cooled with just any old AM3 cooler, but FX-8320 isn't one the problematic ones.

thanks i thought so but wanted be sure and ask around :)

It's ok, I went through the same confusion when AM3 came out lol. You'll be fine.

Just a bit of information, the way the FX reads temps is weird, unless your CPU is underload it won't report the correct temp, you should read the CPU socket temp in those situations. When your CPU is underload the temps will be accurate and it isn't uncommon for the CPU socket to be 10 or so degrees warmer than the CPU package.
