Lenovo Warranty

d3sl91

Well,

My Fiance's lenovo laptop's backlight died (screen is fine, just, no light). Here's the situation:

1. She is in the middle of freaking finals week. Nothing we can do about that.

2. She is in Florida, I am in Oregon.

3. She will be here for 2 weeks, starting This saturday.

4. She will need to be using it almost immediately after getting back to florida in 2 weeks.

When she gets here, I'll be checking to see if the connections came loose on the backlight. But here are my questions. preferably for anyone who has used Lenovo's standard warranty service (her laptop is still under warranty):

1. How fast would this be fixed, considering Christmas and new years and all. What is lenovo's screen replacement turn around time?

2. I'm assuming I'm on the hook for paying for shipping....correct? has anyone gotten out of that?

I'm thinking I might as well just order a new screen if there is any chance it will take longer than a week or so. ($70 gets me a screen at my doorstep in about 2 days).

I used to replace several screens a month working at a computer repair shop. I've never received a screen without a backlight. Something special about these ones?

Ugh. Thanks for the real world answers...I don't always trust the service folks for estimated times.

Well, I'm contacing them tomorrow during business hours. I'll explain to them that I dont care how long, I just need an accurate estimate of time. Anything more than 7 business days will not work.

I'm guessing I'll need to ship myself. UPS puts that at ~$60 to get it there next week (next earliest is the following week after christmas). Looks like I'm ordering a screen.

Well, turns out punching the screen fixed it.

Likely just need to pull the bezel and reconnect with some superglue.

If you still have warranty dont do that. Use it until you can lose it for a week or so and send it lenovo. Otherwise if you fuck around with hotglue and stuff you will lose your warranty.

What series of laptop is this about?

Unfortunately the warranty runs out in about a month - so its now or never. And after chatting with them, it would be about 13-15 business days before getting it back.

However, she is back here and done with school in about 2 months. So, all in all, I'm not worried about using the warranty at this point.

This is a G40.
