I... don't have very high hopes for AMD and Zen. Do you?

Here's something I'd really want to talk about as it worries me as an AMD fan. I honestly think Zen's gonna turn out to be a real dissapointment. With all the delays spreading around and the rumors about four cores in a module, it doesn't bode too well for it. How about you?

I want to believe, but I don't see it happening. They could pull something amazing out of their arses but I'm not hopeful. I want to see them rise to glory again, but I doubt it.

Really though, I think it will at least be OK. Also, I think they probably learned lots from Vishera- DO NOT PUT MORE THAN ONE CORE IN A MODULE.

With artic islands I do have good hope. I feel like the Radeon Technologies group are doing way better than the guys working with the processors, someone needs to buy them.

I think the way Slick described it was that he hopes that Zen will be awesome, but he won't be disappointed if it sucks.

I kind of agree with that, and it seems Intel may not have much competition in the future.

I'm the opposite, i have hopes for it. I mean, all they really did with Bulldozer, was increase the core count, not efficiency/single core performance/ipc. They know they have to pull their thumbs out of their arses and make a good chip this time around. Also, Jim Kellar worked on Zen, so that's good.

I hope they make something good.

 

Especially since intel is going to be refreshing skylake until 2018.

Well even if they can be at least sort of competitive again it will benefit us. So even if they don't beat intel but get on the same level. That's still pretty good. And i don't mean that will be good for AMD, well it will but it will mostly be good for us because intel will finally have their competitor back and they can start fighting again. If they do that i would say mission accomplished AMD.

No doubt it will be an improvement over Vishera and Steamroller, but the problem is that its predicted to have performance close to that of Haswell, with only the same feature set of Skylake. And they way AMD has been going, I'm expecting performance to be closer to that of Ivybridge, if not Sandybridge. So no I don't have high hopes.

Well it can't be worse than an 8350, so if they keep the same price it would be a decent budget option

My expectations for ZEN are reasonable. I don't expect it to over out beat skylake, but at least put on a good show against Haswell.

Honestly I expect it to be a major improvement.  Problem is, even with that, it'll only be on par with like ivy bridge at best

Im hoping it turns out well so we have more competition but i wont be surprised if it flops, amd is like a football team that you keep supporting even though they suck but sometimes they have that shine and success.

I heard that IPC increased by 40% since piledriver. That's not nearly enough. Their new CPU line needs to be at least somewhat competitive to Skylake in IPC. And they need to be cheaper than intel without the problems intel stuff has. If they could bring enthusiast-class processors (5820K etc type) to the cheaper market, especially with 8 actual full cores, we're going to have them be very popular. ALL the enthusiast intel boards I've ever researched have had issues throughout the wazoo. ALL OF THEM. If AMD could bypass that with the same class of CPU for the ~$150-350 range, they'll do well, even with the IPC drop.

 

Hopefully they have hyperthreading too. I don't know what they'll do about heat though.

I just hope that their apus are up to the performance of the playstation 4. that's going to be great for people who want a decent rig on the cheap.
