Hey, so my friend plays LoL and wants to start a team with his friends and playing more demanding games, but he has a cheapo Win 7 PC with a Pentium and Intel HD. He struggles to play at 60fps on fullscreen, taking for account that he has a 900x1024 monitor (not sure of the resolution but its 19 inches long) with some crappy Keyboard and Mouse.

I proposed to him that he should build a new PC and he agreed, but he will have an extremely tight budget.

So i wanted to see if a new Mobo, CPU, RAM, and GPU would fit on a budget under $300 USD. (Taking on account that we would reuse the case and HDD) However... Im not sure if he can stick with his old PSU or if a new one would be needed.

Any reccomendations?

Thanks

Diego

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Seeing as how League will pretty much run on a casio calculator watch, I'd suggest getting an APU. It will be fine for 1080p as long as he doesn't care if everything is on Ultra.

I find it very hard to believe it can't run 60fps on a panel of that quality.

League isn't that easy to run, My laptop with i5-5200u 8GB of ram struggles on Medium at 1368x768. If he has a Pentium pc it's most likely one of the way older ones that came with those Acer Windows Vista pcs *just an example since I had one*

I suppose. Even the recommended system requirements are only a 3ghz, 4GB of RAM, 8800GT machine though.

Really? Odd. My ultrabook ran it just fine, with a higher resolution.

Yeah, I don't know if something's wrong with my processor what, definitely doesn't perform how benchmarks online show though.

I'd do this.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($72.98 @ Newegg)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($19.89 @ OutletPC)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard  ($47.98 @ Newegg)

Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($34.99 @ Newegg)

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 950 2GB Video Card  ($139.99 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $302.83

Hmm if I were him I would just have him get a high end APU and perhaps use the left over money for a higher end motherboard and 2400Mhz ram.

If you want you could step up to a r9 380 and be slightly over $300.

I wouldn't. No upgrade path. At least if he wants to take the graphics card onto another system with this he can, plus it's a lot more powerful.

I wouldn't really call transferring a GTX 950 into another system an upgrade path, where as RAM is used in all computers and having a max of 2400MHZ will be useful in any build

...unless he buys any newer Intel or AMD chip, which uses DDR4.

The video card is PCI-e and can be used with anything ;)

RAM is also cheap.

Higher MHZ RAM generally does nothing, except when used in conjunction with an APU.
