which is better in terms of speed and distance for a gigabit fiber connection. needs to go through walls. distance is about 5000 sq ft. is the ruckus worth the $100 or so more than the ubiquiti? i have about 5-10 devices on the 5 ghz frequency most of the time and about 3 on the 2.4ghz.

That is a hard pick, I have used Ruckus indoor AP's and they are very good. Definitely on the higher end for range. For Ubiquiti I've only used the outdoor units so totally impossible to compare.

I would be happy to recommend either. The Ubiquiti is likely to be a cheaper setup in the long run if you want more than 1 AP and want central management. The Ruckus controllers are not cheap.

Also 5Ghz suffers heaps from walls so just be careful about expectations.

P.S. Metric units are better :P
