Rust recommended specs are BS or...?

I'm thinking about getting Rust and I was looking at reviews, very positive then I saw some guy had performance problems then I looked at recommended specs and this is what I saw; A damn GTX 980 and 16Gb Ram, sounds like bullshit since I have tried it before and I maxed it out at 60+ FPS a few months ago (the new version, not the old.) Have they destroyed the performance or did they just put that there for no reason?

And if you're wondering why I am thinking about buying it again because a friend might get it.

Game is only slightly optimized. It's even worse since it's a multiplayer game on Unity, which is riddled with various graphical bugs that kill performance.

They'll probably put a real recommended/minimum spec when they actually get out of early access, which is what they're planning on doing in 2016 sometime.

System requirements are mostly BS these days. That or it's horribly optimized.
