No Boot Device after latest Windows 10 Update

I am in a tough situation here...

  • Was using my PC (Windows 10 installed) perfectly fine last night
  • Turned off computer for the night, and I see the option "Update Windows and shot down PC."
  • Select that option, Windows beings to shut down, and installs updates.
  • Turn on computer this afternoon, and Windows finishes off the update.
  • I use the computer briefly to bring off a few Word and PDF documents
  • Shut down a PC, and off I go.
  • Come back in the evening, and "no boot device found."

My motherboard comes up with a boot_device LED, meaning there is a boot device error (ASUS ROG Corsshair V Formula mobo).

My Boot SSD is not detected in the BIOS -- even after swapping SATA data cables and power cable with another storage device on from the same PC.

 

I am now creating a bootable ISO on one of my USB flash drives...hoping I can repair the OS install.

 

Any help is MUCH appreciated...especially with my final exams are starting this week.

 

Fully system specifications is under my signature (spoiler #1; AMD system). The boot drive is my Corsair ForceGT 120GB SSD.

Try switching out the SATA plug-in slot on the motherboard.

I put it in a enclosure that came with my Kingston SSD, and tied to connect it to my Ultrabook via USB. The laptop doesn't even recognize the SSD, though there's power.

 

Windows 10 bootable ISO doesn't even see the drive, so I can't do any recovery / start-up recovery on it.

 

I tried to use PhotoRec to get access to the drive, since it bypass the file system -- still no go.

 

 

I did have a similar error with the SSD a few months back, where the drive was not detected, but tiddling around with the data and power cables seemed to have fixed it back then. Maybe that was the indicator that the drive was acting up, and the Windows 10 update pushed it over the edge...who knows.

was the ssd detected in disk management? if no, windows update maybe read/writing on it too must untill it dies

I will check the SSD again in my second PC when I have some more time later this week.

It would be nice if I can recover any/some data off of it.

 

 

I might take apart the SSD, and inspect it for any damage / bad solder joints if I can get the chance...

They should be turned off...even the Q-LED function on my motherboard is enabled (goes through stages during POST, and thoroughly checks the CPU / DRAM / GPU / Boot device).
