I doubt anyones gpu actually died because of this, the cards are designed to downclock and in the end shut off if they reach too high temperature and avoid damage.

I'm not blind. That option is not there on my system:

 

(I set it to 30% target fan speed myself. All it does is run the reference fan on one of my 290's to cool the VRMs and Vram with the Corsair HG-10 and H55 AIO. Other 290 has a kraken G10 + H55 AIO.)

 

The flickering minimap on GTAV and Fallout 4 made me go back to 15.11. I have a 290 (XFX) didn't hit me, or I'm not aware it did. I literally removed crimson 2hours after installing.

 

There's a fix for the flickering map in Fallout 4. Just google and you'll find it. 

 

Getting great performance in all my games with Crimson so far.

Same here. I've been through the 755m, 980 & 980 Ti without issues. I guess we're the lucky ones.

I've had both Nvidia and AMD drivers for some time, and if you're running single card configs then they're apples for apples and both have their fair share of issues depending on what games you're playing... When it comes to SLI and XFire configurations they both suck average balls, with Nvidia sucking slightly less. 

 

To be fair, a lot of it probably comes down to the developer not optimising for multi-GPU setups.

My brother installed the Crimson driver for the HD 7950 (aka R9-280) on our Intel (i5-4690K) system...and did not pick up on this problem. I just ran GPU-Z's render test to heat the card up, and the fan speed automatically increases as GPU temperature / load increase. Fan speed, when left on automatic, have been observed to exceed 40% in my brief testing. I have also conducted the same test on my HD 7970's (aka R9-280X), and the outcome are similar to as the HD 7950.

 

A friend of mine still has a HD 5850. Since the HD 5000 series is now moved to Legacy support, we can only test it on the 15.7.1 (Crimson Edition Beta) drivers. I may/will update on this once we find out if his HD 5850 is affected by the locked fan speed problem.

EDIT: HD 5850 is unaffected by the bug using 15.7.1 Crimson Beta Drivers.

 

I may be able to request a test on the Crimson Drivers with a R9-390 (MSI R9-390 Gaming 8GB).

 

From speculation, the problem only affects certain cards.

 

For reference:

• HD 7950 is a Sapphire Vapor-X variant. GPU-Z recognizes the GPU as a HD 7900 series
• One of the HD 7970 is a Sapphire Vapor-X GHz Edition ('Tahiti XT2' core). GPU-Z and drivers recognize the chip as a HD 7900 / R9-200.
• The second HD 7970 is a Sapphire Dual-X non-GHz Edition (original 'Tahiti XT' core).

Taking it a little personal, aren't we? FYI, my computer is on the floor and I can definitely tell the difference between my gpu fans running at 30% (in my case) and anything that's higher whilst gaming. Maybe if people didn't listen to their music at ear bleeding levels they might actually be able to notice the difference. :rolleyes:

wow. first of all, what the hell is up with you and generalization. I listen with my headphones (32 ohms) at around 40% volume (I don't have a decibel reading, though I am sure you do). Kinda weird how this kill card though since thermal throttle will kick in when it reached critical temperature and probably will shutdown the PC. It's not like 320.18 overvolted them Thermi.

I didn't notice a performance boost in my games tbh. they run locked at 60, 1080. Because my monitor is ancient [emoji14] and they were already running smooth. With the exception of fallout.. (Ofc) the thing dips to 50 when I look randomly at something. Its alright, I barely play it anyway

So I  have the new drivers and well... All I had to do was open MSI afterburner and boom 100% fan speed ( I can tell by the noise )...    I have a R9 270x.

And don't forget the NVcrusader logic of conveniently forgetting that Nvidia did the same thing in 2011 (8800/ 9800 series) as well as a very similar derp with Fermi (GTX 4xx / 5xx)
