[Patched]AMD drivers locking fan speed to 20% and killing GPUS. WATCH YOUR CARDS

Syntaxvgm

I still don't get it(albeit I haven't read all the pages), what cards are affected?

My 380 has a custom curve from afterburner, so that's ok. The 270 in the other PC is on stock fan profile, but haven't noticed any issues with it.

My 280x is fine, but I run MSI Afterburner with almost any game so I'll notice it before it's too late. Being overly cautious sometimes pays off.  :D

Same here...

Glad I never updated. AMD f**ked up bad here... I can't remember another occasion where a botched driver update has actually killed GPUs. Still rocking CCC.

Nvidia did it first, sad to see AMD be a daft and messing up this badly.

I can confirm that this can happen even to 290's and 290x's. Happened to me this morning while playing battlefront... don't know how my 290x didn't melt...  guess i'm lucky.

Hello

display-driver-stopped-responding.png

Yeah....I had that non stop after installing the latest drivers and the previous ones on this computer. So I went back to 355.98 since it never gave me grief. (As it happens, I've also got 355.60 as an option as well since I downloaded it a while ago).

Is this only for GCN 1.0 cards?

Because mine is unaffected. R9 290.

I saw someone on the AMD Subreddit with a 390x reporting about it.

no you cannot. because you do not really hate them. you just have an unreasonable bias towards FX.

their GPUs is tried, tested and proven to be as good or better.

FX however is a story in and of itself.

Hawaii being badged as Grenada......and called something new when its only the graphics card vendors who actually did anything to remotely improve the graphics cards-AMD changed nothing.

nor do they hide that fact.... nor do they claim it is something different...

neither "Grenada" or "hawaii" will yield you any search results on AMDs sites. Those are internal names that arent really intended to be released outside the company. but the press is using these anyway because it sounds cooler and makes it a bit "easier" to explain shit. still...

atleast, they are not lying. The press is. sort of...

From the first post:

Damn I thought it as beta.

Well that sucks.

AMD certainly dun screwed up.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

That DX12 thing will all blow over in time...  AMD had T3 DX12 support meanwhile Nvidia has T2 DX12.1 support, you can bet your bottom $ that game developers wont be using parts of DX12 that 70% (Nvidia market share) of its customers dont have.

---

This happened before on a previous CCC beta driver (maybe Omega)?

You can also bet your bottom that by the time DX12 in games actually matters, everyone will have already upgraded to a fully supported DX12 card  :)
