So AMD Makes A Chart Comparing why FreeSync is so Much Better then G-Sync

No flame war intended

Lol AMD is getting savage.

Edit: I've noticed lately that AMD's feud with Intel has quieted down, but AMD seems to be spending more on marketing and for some reason is REALLY hostile and competitive with Nvidia lately.

I really don't think AMD is going to counter intel any time soon

That's the one thing they're lacking from nvidia, marketing.

From what I understand freesync simply does not offer as wide a band of refresh rates it works on (generally speaking) so no...its not better then gsync simply the displays its implemented in are better (if you are to believe this chart)

I disagree

G-Sync and FreeSync do the same exact thing with not to major differences

I choose FreeSync any day because of $$$$

It's mainly because they really have nothing to hold against intel. They don't really have a proper answer to their mid/high end offerings. On the other hand most of their gpus are extremely competitive.

again every review ive seen on freesync directly compaires it to the lack of range it functions at compaired to gsync. If that is still the case no its an inferior tech.

Gsync works on lower FPS...which is where tech like this matters.

Even though I run team green I will be straight up. I want freesync to beat gsync cause I want nvidia to be forced to compete with the cheaper offerings of freesync. But from what I understand with the above statements gsync is just better at what it does.

Yeah, but since they mention "partner support" so prominently it's funny they'd "forget" to add that not all partners support it that well ^^

With the Crimson driver AMD released frame double (trippling etc) technology for the lowest end of the Freesync so that it works below the minimum and pcper said its all good it works just like gsync's does. This has been my main complaint about it. The problem is the frame doubling only works if the upper range is 2.5x that of the bottom, so all the (30-40) -144hz monitors work but the 45-60 ones wont and even 30-60 wont (whereas gsync can frame double on these), and they are the ones that are going to need this the most being mostly 4k.

I think one of the reasons 4k is kind of rare with gsync is because of the need to have at least 2x from bottom to top to support gsync, that means the panel has to support 30-60 at the very least because you can't achieve higher than 60hz (cable bandwidth limitations with current standards) and so to be able to frame double you must have at least 2x available (I might in the future explain why that is but it is a requirement of frame doubling technology to work).

The differences between the two technologies are now mostly down to the qualities of the individual monitors, the ranges they provide, the price and the additional features of gsync (ULMB, 3D vision).

Freesync is cheaper but AMD is also glossing over differences that matter about the qualities of the monitors. My main issues with Freesync are now:

- Frequency ranges need to improve

- They need to improve the motion blur reduction technology in a lot of these monitors as most are kind of bad in comparison to gsync ones they compete with, not all of them just some. You need those quality reviews (tftcentral basically) before buying one.

Also Intel uses free-sync, not to mention if AMD went bunkers Intel would probably bail them out even! :P

I have to agree that rather than spending money on crap like this AMD should be fixing its newly released Crimson drivers. How long do we have to wait for a fix? Should I not play Fallout 4 or should I play it not using a compass? Or just rely on the modding community to fix AMDs mistakes? Questions

If anyone asks you never saw me.

So quick question on monitors while we're all on the topic. I was looking at a 23-25 1080p maybe ultra wide ips freesync monitor but could not find one with a glassy screen. After going from glossy to flat and back to glossy I just don't want to give up that color vibrance of glossy again. Anyone know if there is such a thing because I could not

find one.

IPS for the win. If color quality really matters to you. But they're not glossy, so no reflections. ;)

Thanks but I have IPS with glossy and I find it is much clearer than flat. When you say superior if you mean superior for a bright office environment with glare then yes but in a dimmer room and no reflection gloss is super clear and really shows off the IPS vibrance and I do not wish to lose that for freesync.

I think it's the brand of IPS causing the difference. My Acer is the best for color vibrancy I have ever seen, my wife is a graphic designer and is in love with it. We'll probably have 3 of them in the house by years end. That gloss losses you viewing angle as well. Not sure I can agree with there being an advantage to gloss.
