Got back into the Folding game after a very long absence (like 15+ years). Got inspired again by watching the LTT video of them making the Folding server to help Covid-19 research. Thanks for organizing this. Here's the start of my contributions.

  • 2 weeks later...

The new build is up, I'm JUST able to touch 1M PPD with the 6950X and Titan-Z.

Adding a Tesla K80 next, and toying with the idea of trying a Titan black in SLI with the Z.

It's the same chip at a higher clock with better cooling, so I'd make it the primary card.

I wouldn't hate having a 6 folding slot machine with 12K+ CUDA cores.

Top 250 in the team rankings.... :) a long way to go now (and progress slowing down  FAST) but not bad for results based off generic spare parts and the odd upgrade!!!

SLI won’t do anything for folding. Just run them as separate GPUs

Finally got a few folding rigs assembled.  Technically I've had one for a while, but I didn't bother letting it rip until I got my second one.  These rigs double as custom water cooling playgrounds, which has the hilarious consequence of the cooling being more expensive than the processors -- between the two rigs, I've probably got $1,000 worth of custom water cooling gear and 4 GTX 1070's, which amount to less than $800 on today's market.  Plus the CPUs, I guess, which I'm not using for folding (and don't even have in the cooling loop of one of my rigs).

All in all, it should be good for 4m ppd, which is approximately what my main rig can get on its own.  But I don't want to put that much load on my main computer :)

And yes, these rigs could have gotten me grandfathered in to a platinum badge while it only cost 500m points, but life conspired to keep me from putting them together until now.  So I guess I get to let these guys churn for a few months before I go platinum!

Been folding for LTT for awhile but first time I've been on forum. Where do you find all these stats I've been seeing posted? This is where I stand as of today.

No kidding!  I wish it was a bit easier to get 3 or more GPUs into a single rig.  I have heard whispers that you can split your PCIE lanes and do this-and-that to get it to happen (or just buy thousand dollar motherboards with tons of PCIE ports), but there are compatibility issues and case fit issues, etc.  Too scary to experiment on.  So instead I get to have multiple normal computers just sitting around.
