hello folding team

im new to the forums, and relatively new to folding. a little under two weeks and im now at 97th position on the team, with 7.2 million points and 208 wu's completed.

from what i can tell my 600k ish points per day should put me up to around 50th give or take a few once i settle into position.

We’re always happy to see new members join the team. Welcome aboard.

I’m assuming these are your folding stats and you’ve already signed up for a Passkey with Stanford so you can collect the Quick Return Bonuses.

Is that those stupid long work units? I have been getting those a lot as well when normally my work units only take about 1.5-2 hours to complete the ones I've been getting lately take around 4 hours which sucks :(

I just got started yesterday after finishing my first computer build. It's an i5-9600K and an RTX 2060. I suspect I won't be close to the numbers put out by the top producers with this build but it should still be enough to be useful. I haven't run it 24hrs yet but the estimated PPD currently shown is 534143. I've already learned that I want to upgrade the CPU cooler to something that'll keep lower than the 63C I'm seeing currently.

63 dec C sounds fine to me. My Ivy bridge i5 has done years of 24/7 World Community Grid at roughly those temps (100% CPU load), plus a ton of other heavy workloads and has never missed a beat, still runs at 50% load for folding.

530,000 PPD sounds a bit low for a 2060... Are you leaving CPU cores spare for the GPU and OS? If not, then cut the CPU folding cores back to 50% and see if your GPU PPD shoots up.

Welcome to the forum.

Did you get your passkey yet? If you haven't, since I think you would need to finish at least 10 work units (WU) first on the CPU slot first, you can get a passkey to receive bonus points.

Alright then, I was finding numbers saying that over 60C is less than ideal. I've left it running for about the last 24 hours now to see what it stabilizes at and I'm at 64-67C on the CPU and 77-79C on the GPU (not much I can do for that besides more case airflow though). I was already planning on buying an AiO watercooler to replace the Cooler Master air cooler I bought. I was pretty unsatisfied by how that air cooler mounted to the CPU.

My guess is that the PPD was low because I hadn't been running nonstop when I read the number off at the time. It's up to 928030 now which is suprisingly close to the top 20 producers. How many people are actively running FaH with the team?

I was actually able to get my passkey before sending in my first work unit. I can't find anything in the client that spells out the exact point bonus I'm receiving though.

The base credit shown in your screenshot (28,700) is what you get without the PassKey. The Estimated Credit (177,600) includes the Quick Return Bonus. So the QRB is 148,900.

If the airflow is poor in your case then your GPU might be cooking your CPU but both should be able to handle those temperatures but for longevity running the GPU in the low 70s should be fine.

Try running with the side off the case and see if that drops the temps. If it does then that’s a sign you need more airflow into the chassis. If so, have you tried boosting your fan curves for the CPU cooler and the case fans? If that works and doesn’t make the noise objectionable then it’s a no cost fix. You can also run a manual fan on the GPU to Lower it’s temperature but that might make the CPU hotter.

Spending some funds on one or 2 140mm fans for intake might give you better results than an AIO but this will depend on your case. I use Fractal Design Define series cases and find I have to use intake Fans with higher static pressure to get adaquate air into the case but I run dual GPUs and don’t fold on the CPU and these are dedicated folding rigs. If I just had one system and wanted to use it for gaming and also wanted to overclock the CPU then an AIO might be a good investment.

I would contribute more if I could, but I've decided to wait for my old HD 7870 (only 80k ppd) to die before I upgrade my card.. As I haven't had the time for Battlefield lately, so not enough justification to upgrade the card yet sadly ?
