I live in Florida so it's hot all the time my rig is in a spare room at the opposite end of the house so there isn't much impact on me when it runs overnight.

Just my electric bill is stupid high atm from the A/C.  Along with, well, three rigs in one room on 2nd floor gets mighty toasty along with being hungery buggers.  I have no issue with the heat, its my electric bill that is no fun if I dare fire them up currently.

@Ben Quigleyseems to have solved his dilemma of what to do with his refund from his dead Vega 64 and is now showing another 1,000,000 PPD.  Hope you got another Vega if you have a FreeSync monitor but the prices for Vega and Team Green are both good these days. With that boost in folding youre now in the top 1%

 

I took some time last week to profile my 1070Ti and like the 1060 it is significantly more efficient at lower power settings so I’m running it at 120W and it’s yielding about 800,000 PPD on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Server with a +125MHz overclock.

 

The other GTX1060 in the same rig is providing about 400,000 PPD at 90W with no clock offset.

 

The interesting thing is this 1060 seems to perform about 3 to 5% better than the 1060 in the other rig with older hardware. It may just be board variation but I suspect it is not getting fed as well as it’s in a PCIe2x16 Slot with an AMD Athlon II x2 compared to a PCIe3x16 running at x8 on a Pentium G5400 which should be the same PCI bandwidth. There seems to be no good way to measure PCI bus utilization on either Linux or Windoze so maybe I’ll add the Nvidia PCI stats to the Zabbix monitoring to see if that points to anything as both CPUs aren’t pegged (66% utilization and 50% respectively) and neither system is starving for memory or using swap. I suspect that it’s just the old hardware and replacing it later this year will confirm or deny that. The better performing 1060 is a EVGA SC Black and the other a SC Short Board.

 

im currently debating another Z370 SLI board with a G5600 versus a X470 SLI with a Bristol Ridge 2C/4T processor but I suspect if I wait a bit the Ryzen 3s may drop further in price.

 

it seems someone at work is folding one of the Beowulf Clusters on this team and has fired it back up recently. If so it’s a nice way to test them out and contribute. I’ll have to see if I give them my key they’ll use it instead 

 

i took a wander in the Data Centre the other day but couldn’t figure out which cluster it was as there was no audible of heat difference notable.

Fall has finally appaeared in Eastern Ontario and things are cooler here. Though we only pay $0.13 per KWH here the basement has been a mite toasty with 4 cards folding. Looking forward to seeing how these space heaters keep the basement warmer in the coming cold months.

It should be fine AFAIK its a 4x slot minimum, 16x at v2.0 is still like an 8x slot. Could be a scheduling error though. 

 

As far as sorting the dilemma out, yeah I did, I got a EVGA GTX 1080ti hybrid SC2 for 20 more than a new vega 64, couldn't really turn it down.

Nice! The 1070Ti and 1080s have gone back down to reasonable prices in Canada with the death of mining and the new RTX models out.

been keeping an eye on EVGA 1070ti on new egg. The SC black got down to $534 Canadian last week but is back up to $579 with the FTW which is probably a better card with 10cn rather than 9cm fans and a beefier cooler. If some good prices come out on Black Friday you might have to watch your 6

Yes, you appear to have gained about 200,000PPD.

 

I played with the clock offsets for a while but then noticed that if I dial the power limit down 40% I only lose 15% points and produce less heat and noise and wear on the cards and fans.

 

my 1070ti will run with a +180MHz offset forever at any power setting. The SC Black 1060 and the 1060 6GB short boards both run a +114MHz offset at low power but these have to be disabled at the 130W maximum or I get failures.
