When Talking about the Silicone Lottery...

When talking about the silicone lottery, would 2 processors with the same name get the same overclock OR is every single unique processor different?

 

E.G:

If someone gets a 5.0ghz overclock at 1.25 volts on an i7 4790k

and two other people with two processors try this with processors #377 and #378

 

If processor #377 = i7 4790k

and processor #378 = i7 4790k

 

then would both processors, #377 and #378, be able to get 5GHz at 1.25 volts because they are both i7 4790k

 

OR

 

would #377 get 4.7ghz at 1.25 volts

and #378 get 4.1 ghz at 1.5 volts 

(these are only examples)

every individual chip is differnet
1st G1 970 gets 1600
2nd G1 970 barely gets 1350

Generally the same model of CPU will have similar overclocking capabilities.

But when people refer to the Silicon lottery, they are talking about their CPU; the one they have received. Someone else could have got the same model of CPU but get different overclocking results.

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

the cpu's of the same type go almost to the same OC capability "lvl" e.g the devils canyon mostly go up to 4,8 or 4,9 stable but some guys like @Lays win the lottery and get up to almost 6g ( nice job man ) ;)

Every single processor is different. One might get 6.0Ghz at 1.3volts and another might not overclock at all. That's also a very extreme hypothetical.

Image the chips as cookies. They all are made of the same thing but some are burnt here and there and are called pentiums while the others are perfect and taste the best, i7 OC beasts

Image the chips as cookies. They all are made of the same thing but some are burnt here and there and are called pentiums while the others are perfect and taste the best, i7 OC beasts
