Is the GTX 980 TI Capable of this ?

doktornpro

I might be getting a 4k screen but i am not certain if i should go for a 60 hz or more , i want to be able to run all new games on max settings, so i have a few questions.

1 : Will the GTX 980 TI    be able  to run all new games such as gta V and the witcher 3 on maxed out settings with a stable 60 fps on a 4k res. ?

2 : Will it be capable of running at 120 fps at 4k res ( If some settings are lowered down )

3 : Does using a 4k screen set to an ingame res. of 1080 p make it just look like a normal 1080p screen or is it worse because it was intended for 4k videos and games ?

4 : what Size 4k screen would you reccomend ? ( in inches )

5 : Are there any 4k screens with near to no bezle like this monitor : http://www.amazon.com/MX279H-1920x1080-AH-IPS-Back-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B17C5KO

1. No, I run two 980Ti's at 5760x1080p (3/4 the pixels of 4K) and I cant run any of those games totally Maxed at 60fps.

2. Perhaps but we are talking Low/Med presets (no AA)

The 980ti will struggle with running newer AA titles at 4k with antialising maxed and advanced blur effects. and even with out antialising it will struggle with demanding games like Witcher 3 at 4k. but it will have no problem running them at playable refresh rates if using a gsync monitor and some adjusted settings. i personaly would go for a 1440p monitor with gsync for the best experiance at this current time. when dx12 gets implemented into newer titles some of the statemens might change. but until then the best and almost only option for running newer AA titles on 4k will have to be Sli 980/ti or Titans. i run most games at 100fps with a sli setup with some games granting me full antialising and other not being so forgiving.

so as i sayd before. id go for eather a 21:9 1440p 75hz+ gsync screen (depending on ur money cap) or a 16:9 1440p 144hz+ screen for the best current experiance with one 980ti. :)

4K TVs that market 120Hz are stating the effective refresh rate, after all of the post processing (motion blur, image smoothing and so on). The panel is only refreshing at 60Hz, just the post processing makes it feel smoother. This works well for TV, movies and such, but doesn't work for games, as it causes massive input delays and often can't keep up with how quickly the screen changes with games (looking from one direction to another for example).

A single 980Ti isn't really enough to get a good experience out of 4K. You'd be looking at 2 of them at least, and even then, you're not going to be maxing everything. I'd go for 1440p 144Hz GSync over 4K.

EDIT: Also, for your questions:

1. No, you'd be looking at medium settings to get decent FPS.

2. If you lower them enough. Still, true 120Hz 4K monitors don't exist. There isn't an available consumer interface that can drive it either.

3. As far as I can tell, it looks about the same as native 1080p.

4. 27" +

5. There's the ASUS PA328Q but it's over $1000. Asus PB279Q is probably the best for a reasonable price.

no

there is no GPU with a cable interface that can do more than 60Hz 4k

just because its a 120Hz panel does NOT mean that it displays 120 frames per second

the maximum it can take is 60 so it duplicated the frames to make it seem like more when its actually not

this is the "false advertising" that all tvs do

and when you connect it to a PC you need to turn that feature off otherwise it looks completely disgusting, which is why most tvs have a "PC" or computer setting which disables this crap

ive tested some monitors lately. and the Acer Predator XB270HU was brilliant to use with my cards. all games ran smoothly and some games i ran way to much fps even with everything maxed out. i just ordered the Predator x34 100hz as i play rather casual mmo and not so fast phased action shooters. and as for what testing with costum resolutions say it looks like il be having way overhead on some games with that screen aswell. so when Dsr will be available with sli il be doing some 4k tests with that monitor aswell.

I have a G1 980 Ti and a 3440 x 1440 21:9.

It will run almost everything at 60fps on Max settings (only 2 or 4 AA, not 8x)

In the GTA  V benchmark it averages about 45-50 fps.

Yeah, but not good for Folding/mining. It whines when it is doing those tasks. Never whines while playing games though.

1) Maxed out? No. You can probably keep AA off or low since it's a higher resolution anyway, to balance performance and looks.

2) If you reduced settings, it's likely.

3) Not quite. UHD is quite literally 4x as many pixels as 1080p, so in your head you think that 4 pixels on UHD can make 1 pixel on 1080p, but because of the way displays upscale, it won't actually look like that.

4) Preference. I've just been told not to go lower than 24", I've personally never owned or even played on a UHD monitor.

5) Not that I'm aware, no, but I'm not really in the monitor game. Yea I've got a GTX 980 but I only have a 1080p 60Hz monitor.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

You won't push 4k60 on two 980 Ti in SLI in GTA V or TWC3. 4k 60 Hz is still beyond this generation of GPUs considering how bad SLI scaling is for third and fourth cards.
