Choosing a 27" monitor. IPS vs TN vs AMVA+. 1080p vs 1440p

jtai117

So the time has come for me to purchase a second monitor (woop!). I have been doing a little bit of research here and there and I've come up with a couple of different interesting options. Price-wise, I'm looking for something around that AUD$400 mark and function-wise, this will become my new primary monitor for gaming and for CAD work.

I'm always open to options but here's the list I've drawn up:

I'm not sure how my 770 will hold up with a 1440p panel and a 1080p. Can turn off one monitor to prevent the GPU from rendering frames on it or something?

Oops, should have mentioned that I'm from Australia, land of the horrendously overpriced tech. An Acer Predator costs $1049 here.

Well, It depends on what the screen Is going to be used for, If gaming, then get a TN panel as the usually have lower response times and lag than IPS panels.

no if you are gaming on one screen and your other display is on, it really doesnt use any GPU power,

It's going to be primarily used for work and general usage rather than gaming. Is the difference in response time really that noticeable? Gaming on an IPS panel is ok right?

Gaming on IPS is fine, its only if you are a super pro top tier CS:GO player that you would even notice

IPS is just so much nicer to use

I hate 1080p on monitors above 22/24" as its very low density

so either go 1080p 24" or 1440p 27"

So I can eliminate the TN panel from my list then. Currently the monitor I have is a 24" TN 1080p, would it be worth it to get another 24" 1080p but IPS? Or go for the 27" 1440p PLS/AH-VA monitor instead?

X-Star are a cheap korean brand so use at own risk - some of those are overclockable to 120hz though so thats a bonus

Youre going to have to get a pretty high end IPS screen to get close to a TN monitor. If youre really Into gaming Id suggest getting a TN monitor, If you're going to use It just for general use then TN monitors are fine, and they have more vibrant colors.

To get close in what way? Response time? I'm not a super competitive gamer so I don't know if it'll matter that much. Also, I thought IPS panels have better colours?
