Should I delid my future 6700K?

I plan on purchasing a 6700K to replace the all-mighty FX-8320. No I won't be going with X99, sorry.

 

Should I take the risk and delid my future baby? Razer blade method! Reward = 20 degree difference.

Uhh correct me if I am wrong but didn't they solder down from either Ivy or Haswell forward?

It was Ivybridge and afterwards that use TIM instead of solder.

It was Ivybridge and afterwards that use TIM instead of solder.

No one uses the razor blade method anymore cause it's too damn dangerous.  Bench vise.  Have to be careful with skylake though because they thinned the pcb down to make laptops thinner.

Bench vise method is actually super risky due to the thin PCB. People have had good luck with the razer method since there are no capacitors under the IHS. Bench vise method is best for anything else.

It's not worth it, unless you use CLU. 

 

I delidded my old 4790k and really only noticed 5c cooler temps. 

 

I was also using Noctua paste

What TOM are you thinking of using b/w IHS and die?

CLU is the best but I think it dries up and how are you going to get the IHS off the die if it forms a bond?

Literally everyone uses razor method for Skylake.

 

The vice will literally break shit, loads of people on hwbot & OCN tried using the vice and were breaking their PCB because it's so thin. 

 

The razor method isn't dangerous if you're not an impatient moron, if anything it gives you greater control because you can do it at your own pace.

Ha...actually designed one of those 2 or 3 years ago for Ivy Bridge.  Never had it manufactured though because the prototype cost was too high and the hammer vice method worked well enough.  Had this made though to assist in machining down the IHS off Haswell-E

EDIT: After watching the video of that thing in action, I'll comment it's typically German: way too complicated to perform a basic task.  He's going to have a really hard time bringing that thing to manufacture at a low enough cost to be appealing.

CLU only dries up when in contact with copper due to chemical reactions.

I plan on purchasing a 6700K to replace the all-mighty FX-8320. No I won't be going with X99, sorry.

well if you are going for LN2 setup u can delid the cpu but there are chances to mess up the chips so be carefull when you try to do it.
