3440x1440 vs 2560x1440

I have a 980 Ti and would like to get an ultrawide monitor. Will there be a big performance hit in FPS between 16:9 and 21:9. So basically 3440x1440 vs 2560x1440.

Also, depends on the game really. Some might do better than others at higher resolution, while some will break.

It's a matter of pushing 4,953,600 pixels versus 3,686,400. Thats a ~35% increase in pixels

4.95m pixels vs 3.69m pixels, so there will be a significant difference in performance. A 980ti should still be able to handle every game just fine, maybe not on ultra with MSAA in some very demanding titles though.

• Score: 3870
• Min. FPS: 37.4
• Max. FPS: 176.0

Difference as percentage:

• AVG: FPS: 28.47%
• Score: 28.53%
• Min FPS: 14.37%
• Max FPS: 24.03%

Test System:

• Intel Core i5-4670 @ 3.4Ghz

A GTX 980 Ti will have no issue running AAA games at the resolution just it wont be at 60fps always. However, it is a truly awesome resolution. Only thing stopping me is that I just bought a 2560x1080 monitor and the 3440x1080 are at least $700.

It really depends on each person's perceived value, but I can tell you that I had a 1440p 60hz and then I bought the asus swift and I couldn't see much of an improvement. (Yes 144hz was great but I didn't find that it was worth the price. G-sync is nice as well, but it's overprice in my opinion, at least after experiencing it.) Anyway, I decided to go ultrawide instead. I was puzzled by the 1440p vs 1080p as well, but I gave a shot at the benq xr3501 and I absolutly love it. Of course, 1440p will look better, but it all depends if you are willing to deal with 60 (or 75hz most of the panels seem to be able to reach 75hz). So the choice is yours, but if I were you I would consider an ultrawide, because I personally feel that it is worth it.

I say go with a 27" wqhd Display. Games like GTA5 will be pita with a single GPU on the x34 if you want all the shiny stuff maxed out.

Well, with 2 980Ti´s you can go for the x34. No doubt.

hmm from the looks of it, I will definately need an upgrade next year from that 980 if I want a new monitor. im wondering between PG348Q or Predator X34.

GTX980 won't hold really 60FPS with any of them though 2560x1440 is more like it if i get the PG279Q

I would SLI. I know that someetimes it stutters but wasting 980s good performance is a shame. If you can use the 980 for something else then i would get an 980 Ti or wait for new Nvidia Gpus. If you like quiet and cold go Team Red Fury X . Just my take on it, have a nice day

My sister will be there raging to play the Oculus Rift as well, so no worries. This 980 will have it's soul taken out, I can assure you. 

 

My big concern is the Pascal HBM GPU. Some of us are expecting this to be the 2nd comming of Jesus, but in the end of the day, even if they decide to arm us with 6000 Cuda cores, that will not be enough for any of us and I know that Nvidia (and probably AMD as well) are working on their chips so that they take a full advantage of the HBM2 and not be a bottleneck. I am just wondering - will this be enough to drive a 4K 60Hz VA Korean monitor and a 3440x1440 100Hz monitor at high framerate? I know that MMORPGs do not require such high resources, and it's the reason why I want to push them on 4K or higher. I want the Witcher to run at 4K with 100 4K texture/graphics mods on top, if not, ill push that GPU to 2GHz.
