To be honest this doesent seem like a good deal to me considering it is reference card as we all know how terrible that cooler is and thats also the reason why people like to make fun of AMD.

I would like to see R9 290 reference vs R9 380x showdown. I think that the R9 290 reference thermal throttles enough to get outperformed by R9 380x.

That's a good price, although it's a space heater, it turns your case into a secondary oven so you can cook while you game.  Making it the most innovative simulator of the year, AMD's new "It's super hot but we are going to tell you, you can use it as a heating element so that you will over look the poor cooling" technology.

All 290s put out roughly the same amount of heat into your room/case under full load. If you water cooled it, it would still put out the same amount of heat. 

 

That said, you shouldn't get a reference R9 290 unless you plan to water cool it because it may throttle and is very loud.

If you turn up fan speed it does indeed not throttle as much but at 47% it is very very loud. I know that some people dont mind that and only care about performance so good for them but I couldnt really use that

Depends on your case setup, you wouldn't want to put it in a mini itx case for example, but my case wouldn't give a damn do to good air flow, though I already have a 970 so.....

Around $290 will get you an R9 390 or GTX 970, both of which will perform better. it's a toss-up. Care about temps more and you're going with a 290 and an AIO with some zip ties, care about performance more and you're going with a 390 or a 970.
