GTX 960 and 950 question (not which is better question)

Edwan Kael
Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

...can't find that in the price range at my online retailer. RM889 (USD209) for 270x,RM899 (USD211) for 380,and WF2 GTX 950 for RM749 (USD176),zotac exoc 960 for RM899 (USD211)

discount is not factored in.

380 is the best bang for your buck out of those

So basically I found Gigabyte GTX 950 (WF2) and Gainward 960 (normal oc ver.) to be exactly the same price,so which one should I get?

Does the custom wf2 design worth the price over a more powerful 960?

R9 380/285 is better than both and is usually cheaper.

I'm not a huge gamer, and power consumption and thermal performance is important to me,so no amd, thanks

380 and 960 use the same amount of power - 180W (not TDP - that's different). 380 is 15% faster, however.

They use similar power consumption and thermals is never a problem a 380 chip, it's only 290s/390s that are known for thermal problems but the coolers still take care of it

The cheaper higher end card will almost always be better than the most expensive lower end card.

Also, I think you should get a R9 380 instead, it's an all around better card.

The 960 is much better but an R9 370, or 380 is much better

the R9 380 is clearly without a shadow of a doubt a much stronger part:

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-960-vs-AMD-R9-380/3165vs3482

When you see that kind of % difference of like 15% or more...the GPU is clearly and noticeably more powerful across the board.

Now up to you to decide if this extra GPU horsepower is worth the added cost, power consumption and lack of some extra nvidia features. I would personaly go with the R9 380, power consumption difference is negligeable at best and the extra features nvidia offers like Gameworks and PhysX for example arent meant to be used on low/midish range cards like that, they are meant for higher end hardware anyways and will tank your framerates when turned on.

In a very bad way. Avoid Asus like the plague when it comes to GPUs nowadays.
